Sell Your Challenger Autographs

The tragic Challenger STS-51L disaster of January 1986 shocked the world as a huge culture had been built up prior to the launch and this was the first spacecraft loss with crew members aboard. The lives of all seven crew members were taken, including a civilian teacher, Christa McAuliffe, who had been selected out of thousands for NASA’s “Teacher in Space Program”. The accident was attributed to the failure of an O-ring seal of the rocket booster and the unusually cold weather at the time of launch.

Space Shuttle Challenger Crew Signed 10” x 8” Photo, Uninscribed — From the Collection of Mission Commander Dick Scobee

Space Shuttle Challenger crew signed photo, depicting the seven crew-members from the ill-fated STS-51-L mission, and from the collection of its Commander Dick Scobee. Signed by all in black marker next to their respective images, ”El Onizuka”, ”S. Christa McAuliffe”, ”Greg Jarvis”, ”Judy Resnick”, ”Mike Smith”, ”Dick Scobee” and ”Ron McNair”. Half-matte photograph measures 10” x 8”. Light wear, overall near fine condition. With an LOA from Scobee’s brother. Sold for $5,491.

Challenger Space Shuttle Crew Signatures Acquired the Day Before the Disaster — Complete Set of Signatures of the Crew, Plus the Surviving Back-up Crew Member Barbara Morgan

Complete set of signatures of the STS-51-L crew, the Challenger space shuttle mission that perished upon take-off on 28 January 1986, including the signature of back-up crew member Barbara Morgan. Sheet likely contains some of the last signatures by the astronauts, acquired the day before the mission on 27 January 1986 by Gene Foster, a Lockheed quality control inspector. Sheet is signed by commander Dick Scobee as well as by S. Christa McAuliffe who inscribes, ”To Gene & Trish – Reach for the stars!”, Ellison Onizuka, Greg Jarvis, Ron McNair, Judy Resnick, Mike Smith and Barbara R. Morgan. Interestingly, sheet is additionally signed by Bob Bressette, Lockheed director of the orbiter processing facility, who authored a memo several months after the disaster, extremely critical of the management at the facility. Sheet measures 8.5” x 14”, accompanied by a 10” x 8” NASA photo of the crew. Uniform toning and folds at ends, overall very good condition. Sold for $3,750.

Scarce 10″ x 8″ Signed Photo of the 1986 Challenger Crew — Signed by All Seven Crew Members

Scarce and poignant signed photo of the Challenger STS-51-L space shuttle crew, comprised of seven members, all of whom have signed this official NASA photo. Signed, “Mike Smith”, “Dick Scobee”, “Ron McNair”, “El Onizuka”, “S. Christa McAuliffe”, “Greg Jarvis” and “Judy Resnik”. Glossy 10″ x 8″ color photo is in near fine condition. As most astronaut photos are signed back on Earth after the successful completion of the mission, Challenger photos signed by all seven crew members are expectedly quite scarce. This is the first that we have ever offered. Sold for $3,670.

Christa McAuliffe signed 8” x 10” NASA photo. The Challenger astronaut and teacher signs with her full name, ”S. Christa McAuliffe” in elegant script. Glossy photo is near fine. With Steve Zarelli COA. Sold for $1,374.

Challenger First Day Cover Signed by Christa McAuliffe, Ronald McNair and Gregory Jarvis

First Day Cover signed by three crew members from the tragic STS-51-L Challenger Space Shuttle mission, which ended in disaster as the shuttle exploded shortly after takeoff. Cover features the signatures of ”Ronald E. McNair”, ”Greg Jarvis” and ”S. Christa McAuliffe”. Postmarked from Kennedy Space Center on 28 January 1986, the day of the launch. Measures 6.5”x 3.75”. Stamp on front and three stamps on verso by a ”Gunter Walter”, perhaps a previous owner, otherwise near fine. Sold for $1,000.

Christa McAuliffe Heartbreaking & Rare Typed Letter Signed — “…I’m excited about my upcoming shuttle flight…”

S. Christa McAuliffe typed letter signed, and her official NASA photo. McAuliffe perished in the Challenger space shuttle disaster in 1986. A non-astronaut, she was selected by NASA to represent the public and furthering of human knowledge as the first teacher in space. Her letter to a fan is signed “S. Christa McAuliffe”. Dated 18 September 1985 upon NASA stationery, it reads in part: “…I’m excited about my upcoming shuttle flight and appreciate your interest…” 1pp. measures 8.5″ x 11″. Near fine. 8″ x 10″ semi-matte official NASA publicity photo is in fine condition. Sold for $850.

Challenger Astronaut Ron McNair Lot of Two Signed Photos & Autograph Letter Signed — ”…I wish you the best as you continue to excel, persevere, and be somebody…What is your ambition?…”

Autograph letter signed and two signed photos by Ron McNair, the NASA astronaut who tragically died in the Challenger mission. The touching letter by McNair, undated but circa 1982 on NASA stationery, reads in full, ”Dear Gina, The word about your outstanding achievements gets around. I wish you the best as you continue to excel, persevere, and be somebody. / Where are you attending college? What is your major? What is your ambition? / Ron McNair / NASA Astronaut”. Letter measures 5.25” x 8”; near fine. Two 8” x 10” photos signed by McNair are also included, each inscribed to Gina. Very good plus condition. Sold for $625.
