Here is a Boston Red Sox 1912 World’s Champions medal we have sold in the past:
Boston Red Sox Medal 1912 World Series Cigarette Case
Unheard-of 1912 World Champion Boston Red Sox medallion mounted to a sterling silver cigarette case. Case bears a monogram engraved to its lid, “MK”, very likely having been issued to reserve infielder Marty Krug, the only player with those initials that year and who played one season with the Red Sox. Comparable to a World Series ring, the 1912 Boston Red Sox medallions were usually made as fobs, although some players preferred to have them custom-made for different objects, such as this. Medallions were made by Joyce & Gendreau. This medallion shows the Red Sox logo with the year 1912 at center, surrounded by a red enamel design reading, “BOSTON RED SOX BASEBALL CLUB / WORLD’S CHAMPIONS”. Medallion is almost identical in design to the known fobs; the two differences are that this medallion does not appear to be 14K gold, and it has a metal baseball above the crossed bats instead of a 1 carat diamond. The metal baseball is exact to the one on the fob, which is placed as the bridge between the fob and ring. Hinged case features an “M&H Co” maker’s mark, with hallmark from the Wightman & Hough Company of Providence, Rhode Island. Also stamped “Sterling Silver”. Measures 3.75″ x 3″ with very minor wear and tarnishing, else near fine. Provenance from Robert Edward Auctions. Sold for $11,550.
