Special Edition of ”Karpov on Karpov” Signed By Chess Grandmaster Anatoly Karpov — Fine

Author-signed Easton Press edition of chess-great Anatoly Karpov’s memoir ”Karpov on Karpov.” Published by Easton Press: Norwalk, CT: 1991. Signed by Russian chess grandmaster and former chess World Champion Karpov in blue ink on the limitation page. Luxuriously bound in black leather boards with gilt embellishment, silk moire endpapers, gilt page edges and ribbon page marker. Measuring 5.5” x 8.75” and running 232 pages, book is in fine condition. Sold for $313.

George Best Faberge Personally Owned Soccer Trophy

Created by Sarah Faberge, limited edition number 3 of only 68 produced, the finial is formed as a Shamrock and created in sterling silver and gilt. The egg is spun in solid sterling, hand engine turned and guilloche enamelled in red. The copy European Cup medal stands to the front, recording George Bests part in Manchester Uniteds greatest European achievement. to the reverse, the football League Champions badge. The sides of the egg with the official crest of Manchester United in 1968 and from the same year the Northern Ireland crest. The lower half of the egg is decorated with the famous Faberge swags interspersed with ornamental silver on gilt footballs, modelled after the footballs of the 60’s. The foot is hand engine turned in sterling silver on gilt. The inside on a field of gold on silver, George Best is presented poised to press forward in match action, a diamond studded football lies at his feet. Sarah Faberges mark stamped alongside the hallmark. The lot includes certificate of authenticity from Faberge, a display case and storage case, all in the original boxes. Sold for $31,608.

Silver Medal From the 1936 Summer Olympics, Held in Berlin, Germany

Silver medal from the XI Olympiad, won at the Olympic games in Berlin, Germany in 1936. Medal bears relief of the goddess Victory to obverse, as she holds a winner’s crown in her right hand and a palm leaf in her left, accompanied by the inscription, ”XI / Olympiade / Berlin 1936”. Verso bears a relief of an Olympian carried through a crowd, the Olympic stadium in the background. Rim shows ”B.H. Mayer, Pforzheim 990”, the silversmith who manufactured the Olympic medals that year, along with the silver weight. Measures 2.2” in diameter. Some tarnishing. Very good. Sold for $15,625.

Bronze Olympic Medal From the 1956 Summer Olympics, Held in Melbourne, Australia — Won by Member of Bulgarian Soccer Team — Also With Olympic Badge

Bronze winner’s medal and badge from the XVI Olympiad, won by a member of the Bulgarian football team in Melbourne, Australia in 1956. The Bulgarian football team defeated India 3-0 in the Bronze medal game on 7 December 1956. Medal bears a relief of the goddess Victory to obverse, as she holds a winner’s crown in her right hand and a palm leaf in her left, accompanied by the inscription, ”XVIth / Olympiad / Melbourne 1956”. Reverse contains a relief of an Olympian carried through a crowd, the Olympic stadium in the background. Lot also includes the Olympic badge, attached to a purple ribbon with ”Football” printed in gold lettering. Medal measures 51 mm in diameter and weighs 63 grams. Slight fading to lettering on badge, otherwise near fine. Sold for $12,500.

Montreal Canadiens 1976-77 Stanley Cup Trophy — Voted Best Hockey Team of All Time by the Sporting News!

Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup trophy from the 1976-77 season, a team widely viewed as the best hockey team of all time. Trophies were given out to players and executives, with this particular trophy issued to assistant general manager Ron Caron. The 76-77 Canadiens had a staggering 60-8-12 record, and swept the Boston Bruins en route to their 20th Stanley Cup championship. Trophy’s text is written in French, and displays the name ”Club De Hockey Canadiens / 1976-77” followed by the names of the executives and all the players on the squad. Written near the bowl of the cup is the phrase ”From Stanley of Preston”. Silver trophy sits on a circular black composite base with a green felt bottom. Measures 13” in height and 5.75” in diameter. Some minor tarnishing to the silver, else near fine. Sold for $9,983.

U.S. Open Championship Trophy Won by Gardnar Mulloy in 1946 — Stunning Sterling Silver Trophy Measures 2 Feet Tall, Engraved With Winners Since 1919

Grand Slam Finals winner’s trophy won by tennis Hall of Famer Gardnar Mulloy at the 1946 U.S. National Championships, which became the U.S. Open in 1968. Mulloy won in Doubles that year with his partner Bill Talbert, a famous duo that beat Don McNeill and Frank Guernsey in a five set tiebreaker. The Mulloy-Talbert team would ultimately win four titles at the U.S. Nationals, with Mulloy also winning Wimbledon with another partner in 1957. Sterling silver trophy is stunning in its presentation, measuring two feet tall with the names of the Doubles winners since 1919 engraved, the last entry of 1946 documenting Mulloy and Talbert’s win. Trophy is further engraved, ”United States / National Lawn Tennis Championship / Challenge Trophy / National Championship / Doubles”. With ”BLACK, STARR & FROST” maker’s mark on underside, as well as the Sterling mark and ”80 / 24 IN.” Trophy weighs approximately 11 lbs., and measures 9.25” in diameter at the base. Near fine condition. Sold for $6,875.
