Bela Lugosi Signed 11.5″ x 10″ Photo From Chandu
Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskó 20 October 1882 – 16 August 1956), known professionally as Bela Lugosi (/ləˈɡoʊsi/; Hungarian: [ˈluɡoʃi]), was a Hungarian-American actor best remembered for portraying Count Dracula in the 1931 film and for his roles in other horror films. After playing small parts on the stage in his native Hungary, Lugosi gained his first role in a film in 1917. He had to leave the country after the failed Hungarian Communist Revolution of 1919 because of his socialist activism. He acted in several films in Weimar Germany before arriving in the United States as a seaman on a merchant ship.
Bela Lugosi signed photo from “Chandu the Magician”, the 1932 science fiction classic, whose protagonist inspired the Marvel character Doctor Strange. Lugosi signs the 11.5″ x 10″ matte photo upon the photographic margin, along with the rest of the cast: Edmund Lowe, Irene Ware, Weldon Heyburn, June Vlasek, and directors William C. Menzies and Marcel Varnel. Below the image in another hand is also written, “M.A. Levy – Chandu! Out of the Air……Onto the Screen!”. Trimmed edges, small spots of foxing and minute creasing, overall in very good to near fine condition with prominent signatures. With R&R COA. Sold for $1,617.
