Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig autograph photograph. 5″ x 7″ black and white image depicts the two Yankee greats standing side by side on the baseball field wearing their pinstripe pants. Inscribed by Ruth in brown ink at the upper left, “For Walter from, ‘Babe’ Ruth” beside which Gehrig signs in black ink, “& Lou Gehrig”. Small .25″ tear (with no emulsion loss) at top, not affecting either signature, else fine. A difficult to acquire pairing of legendary signatures on a single photograph. A Babe Ruth signature with the quotation marks around “Babe” typifies his pre-1928 autograph and will sell at a higher value as well. Sold for $19,036.

Babe Ruth signed baseball schedule from 1939, the same year that Ruth attended the opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame and also spoke to a sold out Yankees stadium for Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day. Ruth signs the 1939 Schedule for the Malone Maroons semi-pro team, printed by the Hotel Flanagan in Malone, New York. A well known destination hotel, the Flanagan hosted the likes of Ruth, Robert F. Kennedy, Eleanor Roosevelt and also mobsters. Boldly signed by Ruth on the front cover, without inscription, schedule measures 3” x 5.625” folded and 6” x 5.625” unfolded. Check signed by Babe Ruth, dated 15 August 1920, during Ruth’s breakout year with the New York Yankees when he hit 54 home runs. Ruth signs his legal name ”GH Ruth” and handwrites the entire check, payable to Duffy Lewis for $500. Lewis was Ruth’s Yankees teammate at the time and also played with Ruth as a Red Sox. Measures 6.25” x 2.75”. Folds, some toning and chips to edges. Very good condition. Slabbed by PSA. Sold for $5,000.

Babe Ruth typed letter signed dated 7 April 1947 on Babe Ruth stationery. In the months before this letter, Ruth had been hospitalized for throat cancer, one of many hospitalizations he would experience before his death the following year. He received an outpouring of concern from people such as the recipient of this letter, Mrs. Hazel M. Colson, who had written to “The Babe” expressing her good wishes. Ruth’s reply reads in part: “My sincere thanks go to you and your family for your very kind letter and good wishes. Having friends does mean so very much to me, and during my recent illness, I had more than ample proof…” He signs boldly in black ink: “Babe Ruth”. The 7″ x 9.75″ one page letter has expected folds and minor soiling, else very good. With PSA/DNA COA. Sold for $5,000.

Babe Ruth signature, written in purple ink upon a place card for the Los Angeles Breakfast Club. Typed upon the card is the name of Mr. Martin Olson, who acquired Ruth’s signature during his time in California working as a defense contractor. Card measures 4” x 2.75”. Two pieces of tape on card, one touching the very top of Ruth’s signature. Some creasing and ink mark on verso, overall very good condition. Verso of card has a fun poem about the virtues of ham and eggs. Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA. Sold for $2,500.
