NASA Large Format Panoramic Photo from 1966 Showing the First View of Earth from Space
Large format panoramic photo of the first view of Earth from space, taken in 1966 from the Lunar Orbiter I Kodak camera, frame I-102H2. Fiber based half-glossy photo measures 19.5″ x 7.375″, a stunning image of both the lunar surface and the perfectly round Earth rising on the horizon. Photo is mounted to board, with vintage slip of paper taped to verso reading, “Historic First Photo of Earth from Deep Space — taken by Kodak photo system in the NASA-Boeing Lunar Orbiter I, 12:35 P.M. EST, Aug. 23, 1966. Distance from Earth was 232,000 mi. The Orbiter was moving away from Earth at speed of about 3000 miles per hour and was about 750 miles above the back side of the moon. The 24-inch telephoto lens with a fixed focus of f/5.6, took the high resolution picture at a shutter speed 1/100th of a second.” Some curling to ends, and edgewear. Very good condition. Sold for $4,600.

Apollo 1 Fire Investigation Photos — Forty-One 8” x 10” Photos
Haunting series of 41 photographs, each measuring 8” x 10”, from the Apollo 1 fire investigation. Lot includes an internal letter from North American Aviation, Inc. to ”ALL SUPERVISION” giving a preliminary analysis of probable causes for the disaster. Also included is an ”Apollogram” memorandum that gives the text of North American Aviation, Inc. Vice President and Apollo Program Manager Dale D. Myers’ statement delivered to the House Subcommittee on NASA Oversight on 27 January 1967. With official information on verso of each photo. Very good condition. Sold for $3,125.
