Printed 6” x 4” fabric flag accompanied the astronauts on the Apollo 13 mission, the third of the Apollo lunar missions, that was aborted after an oxygen tank exploded, though each of the astronauts returned safely to earth. Flag is affixed to an official NASA certificate with the Apollo 13 printed insignia and reading: ”This flag was on board Apollo XIII during its flight and Emergency Return to Earth.” Certificate is signed, ”Jim Lovell”, ”Jack Swigert” and ”Fred Haise”. Certificate measures 10” x 12” and has a small .5” enclosed tear to top edge and minor creasing to upper left corner. Some tape showthrough behind flag, else very good to near fine overall. Flag measures 18” x 11.5”, one of the largest Apollo flown flags, affixed to presentation mat measuring 20” x 16”. Mat is signed by Apollo 12 Command Module Pilot Richard Gordon, above a note stating, ”Sailed With Yankee Clipper / And Intrepid to the Ocean of Storms / November 1969”. Also affixed to mat is an Apollo 12 crew souvenir patch measuring 4″ in diameter, possibly flown. Light uniform toning to mat and mild show-through of glue on edges of cloth flag.
