Apollo 12 Flown United States Flag, One of the Largest Apollo Flown Flags at 18” x 11.5” — From the Collection of Richard Gordon Who States That the Flag Landed on the Lunar Surface
Exceptionally large and rare United States flag flown aboard Apollo 12, and included on the lunar module Intrepid when it landed on the Moon in November 1969. Flag measures 18” x 11.5”, one of the largest Apollo flown flags, affixed to presentation mat measuring 20” x 16”. Mat is signed by Apollo 12 Command Module Pilot Richard Gordon, above a note stating, ”Sailed With Yankee Clipper / And Intrepid to the Ocean of Storms / November 1969”. Mild show-through of glue on flag; overall, entire presentation is near fine. From the estate of Richard Gordon. Sold for $15,000.
United States flag flown to the moon on the Apollo 12 mission, with crew-signed presentation. Flag measuring 6” x 4” is affixed to board signed, ”Charles Conrad Jr.”, ”Dick Gordon” and ”Alan L. Bean”, framed with Apollo 12 patch and label reading ”Sailed With Yankee Clipper / and Intrepid to the Ocean of Storms / November 1969”. Frame measures 11” x 16”. Minute toning to board and some fading to Bean’s signature, else near fine condition. Sold for $5,500.
Jack Swigert’s Personally Owned Apollo 12 Flown Robbins Medal — Serial Number 168
Apollo 12 flown Robbins medal, serial number 168. Sterling silver medal was flown onboard the spacecraft as one of just 262 flown. Mission insignia designed for Apollo 12 is a scene set in space, with the moon in the background and a clipper ship in the foreground, chosen in honor of the crew members’ background in the Navy. Four stars represent each of the astronauts, including the astronaut killed during training, Clifton Williams. This design is engraved upon the obverse, circumscribed, ”Apollo XII / Conrad – Gordon – Bean”. Reverse is engraved, ”Launched / November 14, 1969 / Landed / November 19, 1969 / Returned / November 24, 1969”, and then the serial number 168 and hallmarks. Measures 1.25” in circumference with minor tarnishing, else near fine. Comes in original case with ”168” sticker affixed to verso, denoting serial number. With an LOA from Apollo 13 astronaut Jack Swigert’s sister. Sold for $5,000.

Apollo 12 flown American flag, with certificate signed by the crew. Flown flag is mounted to a large certificate signed along its bottom edge, ”Charles Conrad”, ”Dick Gordon” and ”Alan L Bean”. An inscription by an unknown hand reads, ”To Bill, Many thanks for your support of the Apollo XII Mission”. Printed text of the COA captions the flag, ”This flag sailed to the moon on Yankee Clipper, the second manned lunar landing. / APOLLO 12 / November 14-24, 1969”. Cloth flag measures 6” x 4” and certificate measures 9.75” x 11.75”. Toning, two small areas of adhesive residue at edges and fading to Conrad’s signature, with very minor show through of adhesive at flag corners. Overall very good plus. Sold for $2,500.
