Andy Warhol (born Andrew Warhola; August 6, 1928 – February 22, 1987) was an American artist, film director, and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, advertising, and celebrity culture that flourished by the 1960s, and span a variety of media, including painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture. Some of his best known works include the silkscreen paintings Campbell’s Soup Cans (1962) and Marilyn Diptych (1962), the experimental film Chelsea Girls (1966), and the multimedia events known as the Exploding Plastic Inevitable (1966–67).

Andy Warhol 1965 Red ”Liz” Lithograph — Limited to Approximately 300
Andy Warhol lithograph of Hollywood superstar, Elizabeth Taylor. Made with acrylic and silkscreen ink on canvas and limited to approximately 300. Warhol signs and dates the piece at lower right in black pen, ”Andy Warhol 65”. Simply titled ”Liz”, this red version is part of a series with different background colors. Warhol began his Taylor paintings in 1963 and used a publicity photo for the film ”Butterfield 8” as his source. Measures 22” x 22”. Matted and framed, measures 29” x 29”. Not examined out of the frame, but viewable portion is near fine. Sold for $42,250.

One of the best Hollywood autograph albums from the early 1950s, with over 80 signatures of the most popular actors and entertainers of the time. Each celebrity signs one page of the autograph book, most inscribed to Sandy, whose grandmother was a make-up artist at Fox and acquired the autographs. Autographs include Marilyn Monroe (who signs in green ink), Elvis Presley, Marlon Brando, and Cary Grant among others. Book includes 15 unidentified signatures. Autograph book measures 6.25” x 4.675” with faux leather covers. Some wear to covers, most signature pages remain near fine. Sold for $16,669.

Golden Globe award for ”Elvis on Tour”, Elvis’ final film, shot in 1972. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association presented this award for Best Documentary Film at the 1973 ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. The MGM film was a musical documentary directed by Robert Abel and Pierre Adidge. It provided a behind-the-scenes perspective on Elvis on a 15-city U.S. tour, as well as footage from his legendary live performances. Statue is composed of a metal sculpture of a globe encircled by a film strip upon a decorative base mounted to a marble pedestal. The letters ”HFPA” appear in the metal design beneath the globe. An engraved plaque is mounted to the marble pedestal. Measures 8.5” in height. Square base measures 3” x 3”. Flaking to gilt finish at the bottom of the figure and small shallow chip to base edge. Weighs 4 lbs., 5 oz. With an LOA from Robert Abel’s daughter. Sold for $10,000.

Andy Warhol Large Signed Poster of Marilyn Monroe
Andy Warhol signed poster from his acclaimed show at the Tate Gallery in London in 1971, depicting one of his famous images of Marilyn Monroe. The pop artist gained worldwide notoriety for his legendary Marilyn diptych recreations, with reproductions of various colors of this same silk-screened image hanging in museums around the world. Warhol signs in black marker to the bottom right of the commemorative poster from the show, which ran from 17 February through 28 March 1971. Measures 20” x 30”. Faint tape stains to top. Very good plus. Sold for $8,319.

It’s Andy Warhol’s Explosion! / Exploding Plastic Inevitable, 1966
From 1966 to 1967, Andy Warhol hosted a series of parties that defied easy description; part concert, part performance art, part movie screening, these “Exploding Plastic Inevitable” shows were wholly Andy Warhol. Event poster is for the series of shows from 31 August to 4 September in Provincetown, Massachusetts, entitled “It’s Andy Warhol’s Explosion! / Exploding Plastic Inevitable”, teased as “Where Entertainments Going”. The shows often featured performances by Nico, as this one does, as well as avant garde cinema by Jonas Mekas, dancing by the Factory coterie and sophisticated strobe lighting. Printing information on bottom of poster reads “Metropolitan Show Print – 97 West Dedham St., Boston, Mass.” Printed on heavy card stock, poster measures 14″ x 21.75″. Creasing and discoloration from moisture exposure, overall in good condition. Only the second known example of this poster at auction, with the other selling for $8,400. Sold for $7,227.

Elvis Presley Worn and Owned Suede Shirt — With LOA by Elvis’ Manager Colonel Tom Parker
Elvis Presley owned and worn camel-colored suede shirt, with letter of authenticity from his long-time manager Colonel Tom Parker, dated 8 August 1978. Letter written on Parker’s personal stationery reads in full: ”Dear Friend, This light suede material long sleeve shirt with front pocket and seven-button front with inside silk lining was the personal property of Elvis Presley. It is a size medium with label, it has been in my office collection of Elvis items for years and I’m sure there is a photo somewhere of Elvis wearing this item. I attest to its authenticity and pass this along to you to add to your collection now.” Signed ”Colonel Thomas A. Parker” in black ink. Fine condition. Sold for $4,570.


Elvis Presley worn riding jacket. Caramel suede jacket was custom made for The King by Mike McGregor who resided at Graceland, and worn riding horses on the famed estate. Jacket features contrasting chocolate brown oversize leather stitching and four-button placket. Measures 20.5” across the chest. Scattered brick red paint stains, irregular bottom edge and absent lacing to left cuff, with some breakage to leather laces on the pockets and tops of the shoulders, else near fine. With an LOA from the son of ”Blue Suede Shoes” songwriter Carl Perkins, to whom the jacket was gifted by McGregor after Elvis’ death. Sold for $3,781.


Andy Warhol Twice-Signed Iconic Campbell’s Soup Can
Andy Warhol signed Campbell’s soup can, made famous by Warhol with his 1962 artwork ”Campbell’s Soup Cans”. The pop artist signs ”Andy Warhol” in black felt tip on the tomato soup label, as well as ”Andy” on the metal top of the can. Accompanied by an LOA from Daniel J. Elmergreen, caretaker in the 1980s for art patron Frank Weinstein’s home, where this can originates. In the LOA, Elmergreen writes that Warhol would often go into the cupboards of his friends’ homes to sign ”iconic brands”. Can measures 4” tall and 2.625” in diameter. Bottom lid has hole punctured, so can is empty. Rusting to metal and some discoloration to label, which is still firmly attached to the can. Overall in very good condition, rare as twice-signed and with provenance attesting to the personal nature of signatures. Sold for $3,750.

Elvis Presley check signed, dated 4 January 1965 just four days before Elvis’ 30th birthday. At this time, Elvis was enjoying the holidays at Graceland, and signed this check ”E.A. Presley” for $150.00 to ”Cash” for personal expenses, as noted on the side of the check. Check is drawn on Elvis’ personal account, with his name printed at top. Measures 8.25” x 3.125”. Discreet cancellation stamp, overall in very good to near fine condition. With COA from Graceland Authenticated. Sold for $3,750.

Measures 30″ x 40″ in frame; 20″ x 30″ without. A great image from the iconic Pop artist’s body of work. Elvis Presley Document Signed Contract
Elvis Presley signed document on William Morris Agency stationery dated 14 May 1957. Contract dates back to the month that Presley began work on his third and most widely-recognized motion picture, “Jailhouse Rock,” for MGM. Letter, addressed to “Loew’s Incorporated, Culver City, California,” reads in part, “I hereby agree to indemnify and save you free and harmless of any and all loss, cost or expense which may be incurred or suffered by you by reason of any action taken by you in reliance upon this authorization. This responsibility to be assumed by William Morris Agency, Inc…Very truly yours, Elvis Presley.” Letter, measuring 8.5″ x 11″, features Presley’s bold blue ink signature with faint ghost imprint underneath of what appears to be a second Presley signature created by signing a different sheet of paper on top of letter. Letter holepunched in two places along top of page and staple holes at top left corner. Small smudge near top left corner and righthand border, crease toning on blank verso, otherwise defect free in near fine condition. Sold for $3,350.

Rare leather-bound Gold Collector’s Edition of Andy Warhol’s portrait book, “Exposures.” Numbered 12/1000. Warhol signs in pencil “Andy Warhol” on limited edition page. Grosset & Dunlap: New York: 1979. Black leather-bound book includes gilt “Andy Warhol” lettering to front cover and measures 9.5″ x 11.5″. Book includes original COA from Grosset & Dunlap and the black paper cover with gold seal. Additional signed print is not included. Book is in fine condition and protective cover is in very good condition. Sold for $2,500.
