Andrew Jackson was the seventh U.S. President and a veteran of the Revolutionary War and War of 1812. He proved himself as a leader in the Battle of New Orleans and helped launch his career in politics. As president Andrew Jackson is remembered for putting an end the the Second Bank of the United States, founding the Democratic Party and signing the Indian Removal Act, which forced Native Americans of the south regions to relocate west of the Mississippi.

Manuscript document signed by Andrew Jackson, datelined Camp Jackson, 15 March 1813, during the War of 1812 where Jackson excelled. In this document, Jackson as Major General orders various supplies. Also signed by the Colonel of Calvary and the Regiment Quartermaster. Document measures 7.75″ x 12.5″ and bears a very dark, handsome Jackson signature. Framed to an overall size of 23.5″ x 22″. Chipping along edges and usual folds, else excellent. Sold for $4,037.

Andrew Jackson ship’s passport signed as President for the “Bark Harriet of New York” with Seth Curtis as her master. Vellum document features two nice nautical engravings with a scalloped top edge. With intact wax-backed paper seal. Signed “Andrew Jackson” in large script below the date of 13 April 1834. Measures 10.5″ x 14.75″. A few small holes repaired on verso, otherwise a near fine example given age. Sold for $2,629.

Early Andrew Jackson Autograph Letter Signed — With PSA/DNA COA
Andrew Jackson autograph letter signed, datelined Philadelphia, 17 January 1798. Jackson explains a case of mistaken identity: “…[I] addressed my letter to Mr. John Love…The gentleman who gave me the information is Mr. Charles J. Love…Mr. John Love writes me he will deliver my letter to Mr. Charles Love, for whom I intended it…” 1pp. letter on card-style stationery measures 9.25″ x 14.25.” Most of second sheet is missing. Creasing with some separation to folds and chip to upper right. Very good condition. With PSA/DNA COA. Sold for $1,711.
Andrew Jackson 1836 Rare Patent Signed as President
Andrew Jackson patent signed as President, dated 14 May 1836. 11.75″ x 15.5″ document awards a patent to Luke Prince for a significant improvement to the Cog-Cylinder Washing Machine. Includes schematic drawings of the machine and a written description, attached to document by decorative blue ribbon. Boldly signed at conclusion “Andrew Jackson” near U.S. seal. Folds and light soiling, yet overall a very well-preserved, attractive document. Signed patent documents are quite rare, and this is an excellent example of one. Sold for $1,573.

Andrew Jackson Autograph Endorsement Signed as President — Granting Executive Clemency
Andrew Jackson autograph endorsement signed, dated 16 January 1831. Document grants executive clemency to prisoner Alfred Knight and reads in full: ”Mr. Hunter enclosing the petition of Alfred Knigh [sic] & recommending him to executive clemency. Let the ballance of the punishment by imprisonment, with the fine be remitted, and the prisoner liberated, without payment of costs as it appears he is entirely insolvent & a foreigner.” Signed ”A. Jackson” to the fourth integral page of an autograph letter signed by William Hunter, who seeks to pardon and release Knight. That letter reads in full, ”Mr. Pearce of Rhode Island has put into my hands the Petition of Alfred Knight praying for his liberation from Jail. I was of Counsel for this unfortunate man, and I can safely assure you that the statements of his Petition are true and that he is totally unable to pay the Fine imposed. I cannot but think his case is such a one as peculiarly recommends itself to the executive clemency. / William Hunter.” With a second endorsement by Rhode Island U.S. Representative Dutee Pearce reading, ”I concur with Mr. Hunter as to the poverty of the man and total inability to pay anything.” Jackson’s one page endorsement measures 8” x 9.75”. In very good condition with light toning and folds. Sold for $1,563.
Andrew Jackson Land Grant Signed as President
Land grant signed by ”Andrew Jackson” as President. Vellum document dated 1 December 1830 is countersigned by the Commissioner of the General Land Office, Elijah Haywood. Grant confers an 80 acre parcel to David Black of Morgan County, Illinois. Its text reads in part, ”…The West half of the Southwest quarter Section Thirtysix, Township Seventeen north of Range Eleven west…” Partially-printed document is numbered 3181 and bears a seal affixed to lower left. A note indicates that a record of this transaction appears in a Volume 7, page 122, though text is unknown. Measures 16”x 9.75”. Toning and creasing, else near fine. Sold for $1,249.

Boldly signed, “Andrew Jackson”, with large signature measuring close to 7″ long. Document measures 14″ x 17.5″ with two tiny pinholes, an uneven left edge and toning and folds throughout. Very good. President Andrew Jackson signed Land Grant document signed just two days after his Presidential Inauguration. Dated 6 March 1829, document bears original seal and is boldly signed in ink, “Andrew Jackson.” Overall toning and wear, else good condition. Sold for $1,027.

Andrew Jackson 1830 Document Signed as President — Land Grant in Alabama
Andrew Jackson signs a land grant, dated 16 November 1830. The President signs, ”Andrew Jackson”, granting ”…Chapel Hedge of Montgomery county…the East half of the South East quarter of section Four…in the district of lands subject to sale at Cahaba Alabama, containing Sixty nine Acres…” Alabama was one of the states where Native American tribes were forced to move west because of Jackson’s policy of Indian removal. In Alabama, removal was complete by the late 1830’s. 15.5” x 9.5” vellum document is countersigned by Elijah Hayward of the General Land Office. Document is accompanied by 7.5” x 10” print of an image of Jackson. Moderate soiling and fading to land grant; small hole in text of document, not affecting signature. Overall in very good condition. Grant is dated 7 April 1829, shortly after Jackson’s re-election against John Quincy Adams, and countersigned by Commissioner of the General Land Office George Graham. Land grant measures 9.75″ x 15.75″. Closed tear through wax-based paper seal, a bit of worming at top and irregularly trimmed edges. Andrew Johnson document signed as President. Johnson’s large signature to the center right, ”Andrew Johnson” validates the document, verifying that a ship called the ”Forrester” is the property of an American citizen. Partially-printed four-language ship’s papers contains the same statement in English and three additional languages – French, Spanish and Dutch. Features two official seals. Viewable area of framed single-page document measures 20.25” x 15.5”. Matted with cranberry paper and framed in gilt wood, opposite an etching of Jackson, to an overall size of 33” x 22”. Some separation to fold lines, else near fine. Sold for $968.

Here, Jackson grants 80 acres of land to an Elizabeth Jones in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, shortly after the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which precipitated the Trail of Tears that removed Native-Americans from their homes. Countersigned by General Land Office Commissioner, Elijah Hayward. With original blindstamped seal intact, though peeling. Vellum document measures 15.75″ x 9.75″ with various pinholes and small mouse bites, though not affecting Jackson’s signature. Five horizontal folds. Very good. Sold for $934.

Andrew Jackson signs his full name as President to a land grant dated 6 April 1829, bestowing Nathan Swigget with 80 acres in Springfield, Illinois. Document cites the 24 April 1820 law reducing the federal land purchase minimum from 160 acres to 80 acres as an incentive for Americans to buy. The General Land Office seal is affixed to the lower left. Measures 15.25″ x 9.5″. Folded into twelve sections. Foxing, toning and a small hole at a fold intersection. In very good condition, especially considering its age. Sold for $900.

Excerpt: “In Testimony whereof, I Andrew Jackson, President of the United States of America, have caused these letters to be made patent and the Seal of the General Land office to be given under my hand at the City of Washington, the Eleventh day of May, in the Year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and twenty nine” Measures 15.5″ x 9.5″. Andrew Jackson land grant signed “Andrew Jackson” in large script as President. The notoriously expansionist President signed the Indian Removal Act just months before this 1 November 1830 document, which entitles Jacob Heinz to 81 acres and sixteen hundredths of an acre of land in Ohio. Countersigned by Elijah Hayward as General Land Office Commissioner. Single-page document is partially-printed on vellum, measuring 15.5″ x 9.5″. Fading to Land Office seal. Very good. Sold for $863.

Vellum document grants John Van Ness of Indiana eighty acres in Palestine, Illinois. Measures 16” x 9.75”. Foxing and chipping along folds and some spotting across top. Overall in good plus condition with a large signature by Jackson. Sold for $688.

Dated 15 November 1830, partially-printed document on vellum grants a hundred-acre parcel of land to Lewis Taylor, identified as “…the North West quarter of Section Ten in township Seven South, of range Eight West…of the Lands directed to be sold at Vincennes, Indiana by the Act of Congress, entitled ‘An Act providing for the sale of the Lands of the United States, in the Territory north west of the Ohio, and above the mouth of Kentucky River,’ and of the Acts amendatory of the same…” Countersigned by Elijah Hayward as Commissioner of the General Land Office, with a seal affixed to the left.
