Andrew Carnegie Signed Copy of “An American Four-in-Hand in Britain” — Dedicated to Henry P. Ford in 1899
Andrew Carnegie signed copy of his travel log “An American Four-in-Hand in Britain”, published by Charles Scribner & Sons: New York: 1894. Carnegie signs and dedicates the book to Pittsburgh mayor Henry P. Ford on 17 January 1899. Carnegie’s note to the dedication page reads, “To my friend The Mayor Henry P. Ford / with sincere regard / Andrew Carnegie”. Red hardcover book is beautifully embellished in gilt. Runs 360pp. and measures 5.5″ x 7.5″. Near fine. Sold for $975.

Andrew Carnegie autograph letter signed regarding Carnegie Hall, which had opened just a decade prior to this 1902 letter. Composed on Carnegie’s embossed stationery for his home at 5 West Fifty-First St. in New York, he writes, ”…I find none of our Musical Events are down for Wednesday – sorry – Tomorrow night Tuesday we have Oratorio Society Concert – Saturday night Musical Orh. Thursday is our finest Orchestra, the Boston. Should you by any chance wish to attend any or all of these this presented at door Carnegie Hall will find admission to our Box…Andrew Carnegie”. Two page letter on bifolium stationery measures 3.875” x 6” as folded. Minute smudge to signature, and single horizontal fold, overall near fine condition. Sold for $1,000.
Andrew Carnegie autograph letter signed, thanking ”My Dear Mr. Jefferson” for a favor. Dated 18 November 1895 and composed on his personal stationery, Carnegie writes, ”That we should be so greatly indebted to you for aiding our Pittsburgh Gallery is a source of rare satisfaction. Many thanks My Dear Mr. Jefferson for this kindness- There is no man to whom I should more willingly be indebted than your own good self for I do know, as all men know, – that sweet good generous nature that finds happiness in conferring favors. Always My Dear Sir…Andrew Carnegie”. Two pages on card-style stationery measures 4.25” x 6.75”. Separation starting along fold and some smudging, overall in very good condition. Sold for $625.
