Andrew Carnegie PA RR 1861 Autograph Letter Signed
Rare Andrew Carnegie autograph letter signed dated 8 April 1861. Letter concerning new rail schedules reads in part “Under new schedules there will only be about an hour between the Express East.I thought it much better to stop the East Line.” 1pp. ink document measures 7.5″ x 9.75″, written on Pennsylvania Railroad stationery. Very good condition. Sold for $1,568.
Andrew Carnegie autograph letter signed regarding Carnegie Hall, which had opened just a decade prior to this 1902 letter. Composed on Carnegie’s embossed stationery for his home at 5 West Fifty-First St. in New York, he writes, ”…I find none of our Musical Events are down for Wednesday – sorry – Tomorrow night Tuesday we have Oratorio Society Concert – Saturday night Musical Orh. Thursday is our finest Orchestra, the Boston. Should you by any chance wish to attend any or all of these this presented at door Carnegie Hall will find admission to our Box…Andrew Carnegie”. Two page letter on bifolium stationery measures 3.875” x 6” as folded. Minute smudge to signature, and single horizontal fold, overall near fine condition. Sold for $1,000.
Andrew Carnegie Signed Copy of “An American Four-in-Hand in Britain” — Dedicated to Henry P. Ford in 1899
Andrew Carnegie signed copy of his travel log “An American Four-in-Hand in Britain”, published by Charles Scribner & Sons: New York: 1894. Carnegie signs and dedicates the book to Pittsburgh mayor Henry P. Ford on 17 January 1899. Carnegie’s note to the dedication page reads, “To my friend The Mayor Henry P. Ford / with sincere regard / Andrew Carnegie”. Red hardcover book is beautifully embellished in gilt. Runs 360pp. and measures 5.5″ x 7.5″. Near fine. Sold for $975.
Andrew Carnegie Signed Copy of ”Round The World” — Dedicated to Henry P. Ford in 1899
Beautiful Andrew Carnegie signed copy of his travel log ”Round The World”, published by Charles Scribner & Sons: New York: 1895. Carnegie inscribes the book to Pittsburgh mayor Henry P. Ford upon the dedication page: ”To my friend Mayor Henry P. Ford / with sincere regard / Andrew Carnegie / Jany 17th 1899”. Red hardcover features an engraved illustration of an elephant encircled in gilt. 360pp. book measures 5.5” x 7.5”. Slight toning. Near fine. Sold for $688.
Andrew Carnegie autograph letter signed, thanking ”My Dear Mr. Jefferson” for a favor. Dated 18 November 1895 and composed on his personal stationery, Carnegie writes, ”That we should be so greatly indebted to you for aiding our Pittsburgh Gallery is a source of rare satisfaction. Many thanks My Dear Mr. Jefferson for this kindness- There is no man to whom I should more willingly be indebted than your own good self for I do know, as all men know, – that sweet good generous nature that finds happiness in conferring favors. Always My Dear Sir…Andrew Carnegie”. Two pages on card-style stationery measures 4.25” x 6.75”. Separation starting along fold and some smudging, overall in very good condition. Sold for $625.
Andrew Carnegie Lot of 3 Signed Items in Framed Presentation — Includes Autograph Letter Signed, Letter Signed & Signature
Impressive framed presentation with three signed items by Andrew Carnegie, including: (1) Autograph letter signed by Carnegie from 22 May 1903 upon his Skibo Castle letterhead. Carnegie sends a few words of advice, writing, “…If any man young or old wins the approval of his own conscience he is on the right path…Andrew Carnegie”. Very good condition. (2) Typed letter signed, dated 27 November 1916 on his New York stationery, where he gives thanks to his nephew on Carnegie’s 81st birthday. Signed “Andrew Carnegie / Uncle Andrew”. Very good condition. (3) Signature, “Andrew Carnegie” on his personal New York letterhead. Folds and discoloration to upper right; very good condition. An American businessman who led the expansion of the steel industry in the 19th century, Carnegie donated the equivalent of $230 billion in the last 18 years of his life. Frame measures 29″ x 39″. Frame has some spotting to mid-section of mat, otherwise very good. Sold for $621.

Autograph letter signed by capitalist icon Andrew Carnegie. Letter addressed to James D. Law, whom Carnegie addresses as “The Scottish-American Poet-Laureate” comments on Walt Whitman’s familiarity with the work of Robert Burns “Thanks for sending me the enclosed to read. [I] shed a copious tear. It takes a genius to feel and know a genius and Whitman knew Burns to the core.” 3pp. ink letter on heavy paper stock measures 4″ x 6″. Interior slightly toned; exterior slightly soiled. Overall very good condition. Sold for $598.

Autograph letter signed by Andrew Carnegie datelined New York, 1 February 1890. Ink letter written to James D. Law refers to their Scottish origins “The Scotch lines inscribed are far too flattering but I shall swallow them. With best wishes, yours always / Andrew Carnegie” 1pp. letter on Carnegie’s personal stationery measures 8″ x 10″. Foxing along foldlines to verso. Overall very good condition. Sold for $509.
Andrew Carnegie Signed Book — ”History of Saint Andrew’s Society”
Andrew Carnegie signed ”History of Saint Andrew’s Society” by George Austin Morrison, Jr., detailing activities from Saint Andrew’s Society of the State of New York during the years 1756 to 1906. Carnegie’s signature appears on the front free endpaper, along with five other society members. Volume is a limited edition of 750, signed by the Secretary of the Society, of which this copy is number 398. Volume measures 10.75 x 7.5”, embossed with gold and silver seals on frontispiece. Internal pages are near fine, but overall book is in fair condition as the spine and front board is separated, in need of rebinding. Once rebound, book will be in very good plus condition. Sold for $438.
