Mission Flown U.S. Flag — Sold for $15,000

Exceptionally large and rare United States flag flown aboard Apollo 12, and included on the lunar module Intrepid when it landed on the Moon in November 1969. Flag measures 18” x 11.5”, one of the largest Apollo flown flags, affixed to presentation mat measuring 20” x 16”. Mat is signed by Apollo 12 Command Module Pilot Richard Gordon, above a note stating, ”Sailed With Yankee Clipper / And Intrepid to the Ocean of Storms / November 1969”. Mild show-through of glue on flag; overall, entire presentation is near fine. From the estate of Richard Gordon. Sold for $15,000.

Apollo 12 Lunar Flown Flag — Sold for $11,000

Fantastic oversized U.S. flag flown to the lunar surface on Apollo 12. Silk flag measures approximately 17” x 11.5”, accompanied by a handwritten LOA signed by Charles Conrad, Commander of Apollo 12. On his personal embossed note card, Conrad writes, ”This American Flag was Flown aboard Yankee Clipper and Intrepid to the Ocean of Storms, Moon during the period 14-24 November 1969. / Charles Conrad Jr. / Cdr. Apollo XII”. Items are framed together with a description from Odyssey Auctions, which handled Conrad’s estate in 2003. Framed to a size of 36.25” x 18”. Not examined out of frame; some fading to card, flag appears near fine. Also with Odyssey Auctions COA. Sold for $11,000.

Jack Swigert Owned Apollo 12 Flown Robbins Medal — Sold for $8,400

Apollo 12 space-flown Robbins medal, serial number 171. Sterling silver medal was flown on board the spacecraft as one of just 262 flown. Mission insignia designed for Apollo 12 is a scene set in space, with the moon in the background and a clipper ship in the foreground, chosen in honor of the crew members’ background in the Navy. Four stars represent each of the astronauts, including the astronaut killed during training, Clifton Williams. Engraved upon the obverse, circumscribed, “Apollo XII / Conrad – Gordon – Bean”. Reverse is engraved, “Launched / November 14, 1969 / Landed / November 19, 1969 / Returned / November 24, 1969”, and then the serial number 171 with the Robbins sterling silver hallmarks. Minor tarnishing, else near fine. Comes in original case with “171” sticker affixed to verso, denoting serial number. With an LOA from Jack Swigert’s sister. Sold for $8,400.

Mission Flown U.S. Flag — Sold for $6,906

Large American flag, measuring 11.5″ x 8″, flown to the moon aboard Apollo 12, and affixed to presentation mat signed by the entire Apollo 12 crew. Mat, measuring 16″ x 18″, is additionally dedicated by Command Module Pilot Richard Gordon: “Flown to the moon on Apollo XII! / Charles Conrad Jr. / Richard F. Gordon Jr. / Alan Bean”. Also affixed to mat is an Apollo 12 crew souvenir patch measuring 4″ in diameter, possibly flown. Light uniform toning to mat and mild show-through of glue on edges of cloth flag. Flag is bright and displays beautifully, overall in near fine condition. From Richard Gordon estate. Sold for $6,909.

Alan Bean Signed Photo With Handwritten Detail on Exploring the Moon — Sold for $6,650

Alan Bean signed 16″ x 20″ lunar photo, with a vivid handwritten description by Bean of what it was like to walk and run on the moon, as well as the unexpected dangers lying in wait for the astronauts. Complete text of Bean’s inscription reads, “Running Was Easier Than Walking in the 1/6th Gravity / Running on the moon takes less energy than walking on the moon. This is because it is easier for me to move my small ankle joints than to move my much larger hip and knee joints. As I run about, I must look ahead and not step into any small craters or on any rocks and injure my ankles. Also, I cannot run too close to large craters because if the edge were to give way, I would slip into the crater and be up there a long, long time. Dancing on my tiptoes is the easiest way to move about and it’s a lot fun as well. Alan Bean / Apollo XII LMP [Lunar Module Pilot]”. Semi-matte photo measures 16″ x 20″. Some minimal smudging on inscription, otherwise near fine. Sold for $6,650.

U.S. Flag Flown to the Moon With Crew Signed Certificate — Sold for $5,500

United States flag flown to the moon on the Apollo 12 mission, with crew-signed presentation. Flag measuring 6” x 4” is affixed to board signed, ”Charles Conrad Jr.”, ”Dick Gordon” and ”Alan L. Bean”, framed with Apollo 12 patch and label reading ”Sailed With Yankee Clipper / and Intrepid to the Ocean of Storms / November 1969”. Frame measures 11” x 16”. Minute toning to board and some fading to Bean’s signature, else near fine condition. Sold for $5,500.

Mission Flown Robbins Medallion — Sold for $5,331

Flown Robbins medal from Apollo 12, the second human moon landing mission. Sterling silver medallion is serial number 250, engraved on the reverse along with the Robbins sterling mark and dates of the launch, landing and return: November 14, 19 and 24 1969. Obverse of medal features the mission insignia of a a sailing ship against the moon’s surface, with the surnames of crew members Charles Conrad, Richard Gordon and Alan Bean. Medallion measures 1.25” in diameter. Very good to near fine condition. From the personal collection of astronaut Story Musgrave and with his LOA. Sold for $5,331.
