Charles Lewis Tiffany cabinet photo signed, dated 15 April 1892. Here, the entrepreneurial jeweler who built the famous ”Tiffany & Co.” empire poses at an older age with a silvered beard. He signs the photo, ”Feby 15, 1892 My eightieth birthday C. L. Tiffany.” Cabinet card has original Sarony photography studio imprint in gilt to base as well as to the verso. Measures 4.25” x 6.5” with some foxing and toning, else very good condition. Sold for $1,875.
Marlene Dietrich Personally Owned Large Aquamarine Solitaire Ring Set in 18k Gold by Tiffany & Co.
Marlene Dietrich’s Tiffany aquamarine ring. Giant oval solitaire is set in a four-prong 18k gold setting. Size 8 ring features a 750 stamp and 18k stamp inside. A piece has been added to make the ring smaller but appears simple to remove (not welded to ring). Stone measures 0.75” x nearly 1” x just over 0.5”. Near fine. In original Tiffany Box. Exquisite world clock from the Lyndon B. Johnson family. Cylindrical timepiece by Tiffany & Co. features a prominent engraving to one side reading, ”The President / November 22, 1963 – January 20, 1969”. Brushed brass desktop clock features Arabic quarter-hour numerals surrounding a gilt and silver world planisphere. Map is divided into sectors with the names of twenty-four world cities and countries. 8-day Swiss movement is 15 jewels, and maker ”Tiffany & Co.” appears on the face. Measures 4” in diameter. Key for alarm and crystal is absent, else fine. With provenance from a charity auction benefiting the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at the University of Texas, and an LOA from Lynda Johnson Robb. Sold for $10,541.
Ed Sullivan Gold Tiffany’s Wristwatch — Gifted to Him by Frank Sinatra
Ed Sullivan’s Tiffany’s wristwatch. The 14-karat gold timepiece made by Tiffany & Co. bears an engraved Christmas dedication that reads ”Thanks Ed, Frankie [Sinatra], December 25, 1947”. The two friends had a falling out as described in ”His Way: An Unauthorized Biography” in which Sullivan vowed to send this watch back to Sinatra. Watch is in near fine condition. With provenance from R&R. Sold for $6,544.
Pair of Elegant Tiffany & Co. Sterling Silver 15” Candlesticks
Pair of exquisite Tiffany & Co. sterling silver candlesticks. These 15” early twentieth century candlesticks are a reproduction of an eighteenth century Georgian design by noted English silversmith John Schofield. Each candlestick rests on a spreading 6.75” circular base decorated with a gadroon border. Both candlesticks are marked ”Tiffany & Co. Makers Sterling Silver” on the bottom and stamped with an ”M”, representing the directorship of John C. Moore II between 1907 and 1947. Another mark indicates the date of the original Schofield design as 1784. Total weight of the hollowed pair is 64.5 troy ounces. Each candlestick is elegantly monogrammed with the letter ”S”. The silver bobeches are removable. Near fine. Sold for $2,188.
Rare set of Brooklyn Bridge opening ceremony documents, consisting of the invitation, ticket and program. Invitation to the 24 May 1883 celebration is addressed to New Yorker Edward F. Patchen. The focal point of the card is an etching of the suspension bridge stretching across the East River to connect Manhattan and Brooklyn. Its original name, the ”New York and Brooklyn Bridge” is printed in the largest font. Single-page invitation by Tiffany & Co. measures 9” x 6.5”. Admission ticket admits one and bears an embossed leaf design reading ”NY & BB” to the lower right. Also printed by Tiffany & Co., measuring 6.5” x 2.75”. The program lists the events of the ceremony, including an appearance by the President. The trustees, commissioners and engineers on the project are credited within. Runs 4pp., printed by Eagle Print, and measuring 5.75” x 8.5”. Lot includes Tiffany & Co. embossed envelope. Each piece is in near fine condition. Sold for $1,989.
Exquisite Tiffany & Co. sterling silver three-piece coffee set. This individually-sized coffee service has a beautiful repousse floral border at the base and a rope design along the upper rim. Pieces are all marked Tiffany & Co. on the bottom and stamped with a ”T”, representing the directorship of Charles L. Tiffany between 1892 and 1902. The coffee pot has a delicate, curved pouring spout and stands 7” tall with a 14 ounce capacity, as indicated by the ”3 1/2 gill” stamp on the bottom. The 3.75” tall creamer has a 5 ounce capacity and the open sugar bowl with ring handles is 2.25” tall, 3.5” in diameter and has a 9 ounce capacity. Total weight of the set is 23.47 troy ounces. The pot is also number stamped 4755 and 3980, the creamer 5230 and 5916 and the sugar bowl 5230 and 5916. The set has an elaborate, beautiful monogram that appears to read ”LLL”. There are several tiny dents on the coffee pot and a few scratches on the sugar bowl, but they are nearly indiscernible. Remarkable quality for a set over 100 years old. Near fine condition. Sold for $1,562.
