Abigail Fillmore Autograph Letter Signed — “…I was presented with a beautiful miniature engraving of my husband, Millard Fillmore, from yourself, for which you will please accept my sincere thanks…” — Scarce
Scarce Abigail Fillmore autograph letter signed, dated 21 September 1848 from Albany. Letter thanks photographer and engraver “E[dward] Anthony” of New York for a miniature engraving of her husband. In part: “On my return from the West yesterday, I was presented with a beautiful miniature engraving of my husband, Millard Fillmore…I consider it an excellent likeness, by far the best I have seen, and shall preserve it…” Signed clearly “Abigail Fillmore”. Single page letter measures 8″ x 9.75″ with minor foxing in spots, else near fine. Sold for $3,682.

Millard Fillmore autograph letter signed to politician and poet George Lunt, regarding Lunt’s anti-Civil War poem, ”The Union.” Like Fillmore, Lunt preferred compromise over conflict in dealing with slavery, reflected in his poem which Fillmore praises in this letter, written on 25 June 1860 from his home in Buffalo, New York. In part, ”…I beg of you to accept my sincere thanks for the short poem which you were so kind as to send me entitled, ‘The Union.’ I have perused it with great pleasure and sincerely wish that the fanatic might feel the sting of its sarcasm, and the patriot inhale its spirit…Millard Fillmore”. 1pp. measures 5” x 7.75”, mounted to a backing sheet to an overall size of 5.5” x 8”. Loss to lower left corner, very good condition. Sold for $1,399.

Millard Fillmore Military Document Signed as President
Millard Fillmore military document signed as President on 1 March 1851. Partially printed document awards a certificate of merit to Anthony Stemple for his participation in the Battle of Chapultepec during the Mexican-American War. Fillmore signs boldly ”Millard Fillmore” to bottom right of document measuring 16” x 9.75”. Accompanied by 7” x 5” metal plaque bearing biographical information on Fillmore. Document folds and toning, else near fine. Sold for $605.

Millard Fillmore Signed Free Frank
Millard Fillmore free frank signed, ”M. Fillmore” as President-elect. Envelope is postmarked Washington D.C., 15 October. No year, but styling of postmark dates to 1850. Measures 5.25” x 3”. Toning and creasing, else near fine. Sold for $500.

Millard Fillmore 1840 Autograph Letter Signed as Congressman From New York
Millard Fillmore autograph letter signed, dated 6 April 1840, to R.H. Allen, Esq. Letter reads, ”Yours enquiring whether there is any reason to hope for appropriations for Western harbors is received. I regret to say that I think there is no ground for any hope. Every proposition of the kind has been voted down by decided majorities in both Houses. Respectfully yours / Millard Fillmore”. Fillmore served in the House until 1843 and became President ten years after writing this letter. Light soiling and archival repair to folds of 8” x 9.75” letter, else very good plus. Sold for $468.

Millard Fillmore Document Signed as President — Fillmore Grants ”Respite”
Millard Fillmore document signed as President, granting ”further respite” to a James Clemente. Partially printed document is dated 5 August 1851, signed ”Millard Fillmore”. Measures 8.25” x 10.25” on bifolium stationery with docketing on verso. Folds, light toning and mild chipping along right edge. Very good condition. Sold for $438.
