Stanley Kubrick Autograph Letter Signed Dissecting 2001

Stanley Kubrick autograph letter signed, dated 10 August 1968. Here, the director writes to New York University physicist and personal friend, Jeremy Bernstein regarding “2001: A Space Odyssey”. Reads in full: “For someone who doesn’t really like the film your piece was very kind. The only bad mistake (in it) is that in the novel it was A.C.[‘s] intention that Starchild saved the world by detonating the orbital bombs. One can only presume he had a way of coping with the radio active debris and the heat. You will note that ending is not one that I subscribed to; principally for its implications. I hope you plan to stop off in London on your way back.” Signed “Stanley” in black ink. A.C. refers to Arthur Clarke, whom Kubrick collaborated with on the screenplay and whose novel inspired the movie. Letter on one page measures 7.25″ x 10.5″. Some wrinkling and folds throughout, very good. Sold for $3,000.

Stanley Kubrick Autograph Letter Signed on 2001 Set

Stanley Kubrick autograph letter signed, dated 26 March 1967. Here, the director writes to New York University physicist and personal friend, Jeremy Bernstein. Bernstein wrote a famous “New Yorker” profile of the director as he was making “2001: A Space Odyssey”. Reads in full: “Congratulations and my suspenseful and most sincere hopes for Miss X. She sounds so good it could be a come on for a wife-swapping ad in the Enquirer. There is a good chance we will return to London after the film opens so it would be great if you did come to Imperial College. Your parents probably told you they visited the studio. I don’t know what impression they got of things. I hope they found it interesting. Your father reminds me of Omar Bradley and your mother of you, though you (sound) speak exactly like your father. I’d like to see the Oppenheimer obituary. I enjoyed the piece you sent. I do hope you work things out to your satisfaction.” Signed “Stanley” in bold, black ink. Letter on one page is lined and measures 8″ x 12″. Very minor toning and folds throughout, else very good to near fine. Sold for $1,291.

George Reeves Signed Photo

George Reeves (born George Keefer Brewer; January 5, 1914 – June 16, 1959) was an American actor. He is best known for his role as Superman in the 1952–1958 television program Adventures of Superman. In June 1951, Reeves was offered the role of Superman in a new television series titled Adventures of Superman. He was initially reluctant to take the role because, like many actors of his time, he considered television unimportant and believed few would see his work. The half-hour films were shot on tight schedules; at least two shows were made every six days. According to commentaries on the Adventures of Superman DVD sets, multiple scripts would be filmed simultaneously to take advantage of the standing sets so that, for example, all the “Perry White’s office” scenes for three or four episodes would be shot the same day and the various “apartment” scenes would be done consecutively. Reeves’s career as Superman had begun with Superman and the Mole Men, a film intended both as a B-picture and as the pilot for the TV series. Immediately after completing it, Reeves and the crew began production of the first season’s episodes, all shot over 13 weeks in the summer of 1951. The series went on the air the following year, and Reeves was amazed at becoming a national celebrity. In 1952, the struggling ABC Network purchased the show for national broadcast, which gave him greater visibility. George Reeves Signed Photo. Sold for $4,200.
