Ayn Rand Letter Signed from 1963 on ”The Objectivist Newsletter” Stationery
Ayn Rand typed letter signed, dated 17 September 1963 on ”The Objectivist Newsletter” stationery, the organization co-founded by Rand a year earlier, which changed its name to simply ”The Objectivist” in 1965. In this letter, Rand politely declines a request for a personal appointment, writing, ”my schedule in Portland is so tight that it is impossible…[signed] Ayn Rand”. Letter measures 8.5” x 11”. Folds, creasing along bottom edge, and minute spots to middle left. Overall in very good plus condition, accompanied by original ”Objectivist Newsletter” envelope. Sold for $1,250.

Ayn Rand Signed “Fountainhead” 1st Ed
Signed and inscribed copy of Ayn Rand’s “The Fountainhead.” Bobbs-Merrill Company: New York: 1943. First edition, later printing. Signed in ink to front free endpaper, “To David Weisbart / Thank you for your brilliant job of film editing – and for your philosophical interest – Ayn Rand.” First edition points present as follows: page 9: the “9” looks like an “o” at the bottom; page 321, line 5: “refrred”; page 381, line 4: “G.W. the ‘G’ is shorter; page 480 line 2: Dominique misspelled “Domininque.” Along with “Anthem” and “Atlas Shrugged,” “The Fountainhead” placed Rand in rarified company among the great authors of her generation. Volume shows only minor wear to edges and ends, else excellent condition. An exceptional copy of this literary masterwork by one of the twentieth century’s greatest intellectuals. Sold for $3,475.

Ayn Rand’s “Fountainhead” — Signed Hardback Copy of this Rare Book
Hardback copy of Ayn Rand’s “The Fountainhead” The Blakiston Company: Philadelphia, 1943. Signed by the author to the front free endpaper. Rand’s seminal literary epic centered around the rival of wills and approaches between two diametrically-opposed architects – the staunch individualist Howard Roark, and the derivative and morally-cowardly Peter Keating. Green binding slightly loose and separation at front hinge. Previous owner’s signature to rear free endpaper. A solid copy in excellent condition. Sold for $2,881.

Ayn Rand signed limited edition of ”Atlas Shrugged”. New York: Random House, 1967. Rand’s celebrated final novel set in a science-fictional America popularized the idea of rational self interest and went on to greatly influence the Libertarian political movement. Limitation page is signed ”Ayn Rand” in blue ink and indicates this is number 1,690 of a 10th Anniversary signed edition limited to 2,000 such copies. At 1168pp., this is her lengthiest piece of literature. Bound in blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and top edge blue. Measures 6” x 8.75”. In original glassine dust jacket, which is torn in several places. Previous owner’s name to front pastedown, and slightly cocked binding, otherwise book is in near fine condition. Sold for $2,813.

Ayn Rand signed limited edition of ”Atlas Shrugged”, Random House: New York: 1967. Rand’s celebrated final novel set in a dystopian America popularized the philosophy of Objectivism and rational self-interest. Limitation page is signed ”Ayn Rand” in blue ink and indicates this is number 721 of a 10th Anniversary signed edition limited to 2,000 such copies. At 1168pp., this is her lengthiest piece of literature. Bound in blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and top edge blue. Measures 6” x 8.75”. Some minor blue ink to spine and scratching to bottom edge, else near fine. Sold for $2,188.

Signed limited edition of Ayn Rand’s ”Atlas Shrugged.” Random House: New York: 1957. Rand signs the tenth anniversary edition number 1,888 of 2,000 upon the limitation page, ”Ayn Rand”. Considered a definitive novel of the 20th century, ”Atlas Shrugged” is Rand’s skillful fictional vehicle for her philosophy of individualism. She states in the novel’s appendix, ”My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute.” Book measures 6” x 8.75” in original blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and blue top edges. Housed in the original 6.5” x 9” cardboard slipcase. Fine condition. Sold for $2,129.

Ayn Rand Signed First Edition of ”The Fountainhead”
Ayn Rand’s signed first edition of her most famous work, ”The Fountainhead”. Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill Co., 1943. Rand signs upon the front free endpaper, ”To Allan Briney, M.D. – Cordially – Ayn Rand / 10/9/63”. First edition, later printing with the errors present: page 9 looks like page 0; page 321, line 5 contains misspelling of the word ”referred”; page 480, line 2 has Dominique misspelled as ”Domininque”. Bound in green cloth boards with gilt lettering, measuring 6” x 8”. Discreet abrasions to signature page, somewhat loose binding and sunning to spine. Overall a very good copy.
Sold for $2,000.

Ayn Rand Typed Letter Signed Mentioning “The Fountainhead” — “…Thank you for your letter – and many thanks to your friend, Dale Hart, who recommended THE FOUNTAINHEAD to you…”
Ayn Rand typed letter signed, paired with an early photo of Rand in Hollywood. Letter on Rand’s personal stationery is dated 24 May 1946. She writes to one Rip Reynolds in Pelly, Texas, in full, “Dear Mr. Reynolds: Thank you for your letter – and many thanks to your friend, Dale Hart, who recommended THE FOUNTAINHEAD to you. I am enclosing a printed letter which might interest you. Sincerely, [signed] Ayn Rand”. Single-page letter is attractively matted and framed alongside the photo to an overall size of 21″ x 15″. Items have not been removed from frame for inspection but appear near fine save for creasing and light staining to letter. Sold for $1,954.

Ayn Rand Signed Copy of ”The Fountainhead” — With PSA/DNA COA
Ayn Rand signed first edition, second printing of ”The Fountainhead”. Published by the Blakiston Company: Philadelphia: 1943, this second printing copy contains the errors: page 9 is listed as page 0 and page 321, line 5 contains misspelling of the word ”referred”. Rand signs her name along with the date of 4/10/77 to title page. Runs 754pp., bound in maroon cloth boards with gold lettering. Slight hinge detachment and toning. Very good. With PSA/DNA COA. Sold for $1,438.

Ayn Rand Signed First Edition of ”Anthem” in Beautiful Condition
Ayn Rand signed first edition from a later printing of her novella ”Anthem”, Caxton Printers: Caldwell: 1964. Rand inscribes the front free endpaper in blue ink: ”To Stephen R. Eber / – Cordially – / Ayn Rand / 10/9/67”. Measures 5.75” x 8.5” and runs 105pp. Bound in lime green cloth boards with black lettering. Very minor wear to exterior edges. Near fine. Wear to dustjacket edges and hinges, else near fine. Sold for $1,250.

Ayn Rand’s ”Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal” Signed Limited Edition
Ayn Rand signed ”Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal,” New American Library: New York: 1966. Rand signs the limitation page ”Ayn Rand” in blue ink. This is No. 41 of 700 in its original slipcase. An excerpt from her introduction reads: ”This book is not a treatise on economics. It is a collection of essays on the moral aspects of capitalism…” Runs 305pp. Bound in green cloth boards, with black cloth spine printed in silver lettering. Measures 5.75” x 8.5”. Staining to about one fifth of the rear board, else near fine. Handwritten number 41 is present to the slipcase spine near the base. Staining to upper portion of slipcase, else very good. Sold for $468.
