The following is a STS-58 Flown Robbins Medal we have sold:
Robbins Medal #43F, Flown on Columbia STS-58 — Owned by Astronaut Shannon Lucid
STS-58 was a NASA mission flown by Space Shuttle Columbia launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 18 October 1993. The missions was primarily devoted to experiments concerning the physiological effects in space. This was the first in-flight use of the “Portable In-flight Landing Operations Trainer” (PILOT) simulation software. It was also the last time Columbia would land at Edwards Air Force Base, California.
Robbins medal flown on Columbia flight STS-58, owned by astronaut Shannon Lucid, veteran of six space shuttle and two Mir missions, and the Chief Scientist of NASA in the early 2000s. Silver Robbins medal is marked 43F on rim, as are the Robbins and sterling marks. Reverse of medal features the names of the astronauts along with “Launched / October 18, 1993 / Landed / November 1, 1993 / RW 22, EDW, CA”, and the front features the mission insignia in relief. Hexagonal shaped medal measures 1.75″ in diameter, housed in its original Robbins medal case. Near fine condition. With an LOA from Shannon Lucid. Sold for $1,700.
