Pencil sketch was for the strip published on 2 March 1975, hand-drawn by Foster as the strip transitioned from Foster to John Cullen Murphy. Measures 8.5” x 11”. Three hole punch, and paperclip impression at top, overall in very good plus condition. With Prince Valiant label in first panel, and signed by Foster on last panel. From the John Cullen Murphy estate. Sold for $1,186.
Original Hal Foster signed preliminary artwork for the ”Prince Valiant” comic strip, #2048 in the series. Pencil and ink wash sketch was for the strip published on 9 May 1976, hand-drawn by Foster as the strip transitioned from Foster to John Cullen Murphy. Sketch measures 8.5” x 11”, with an additional sketch by Foster on the verso, showing what the gold bag referenced in the story should look like, writing: ”The bag has long since rotted away leaving the encrusted coins all stuck together”. Three hole punch, and light wear, overall in very good condition. With Prince Valiant label in first panel, and signed by Foster on last panel. From the John Cullen Murphy estate. Sold for $1,186.
