Here is a piece of 1930 Chic Young Blondie original comic strip art we have sold in the past:
Lot of four charming ”Blondie” comic strips hand-drawn and signed by Chic Young, dated 1930-1933 early in the strip’s history. In the first strip titled ”The Oily Bird”, Blondie visits Dagwood at his job where he works for his father’s railroad empire. Dated 20 December 1930, a few months after the strip’s debut. Measures 19” x 5”, in very good plus condition.
Second strip is dated 18 February, with no label, but 1932 based on content. In this strip, titled ”Bitter Sweet”, Dagwood’s father has a temporary change of heart and allows Dagwood to marry Blondie, but then changes his mind again by the strip’s end. Measures 21.25” x 5.5”. Some dampstaining along bottom edge, mostly affecting first two panels. Good plus condition.
Third strip is dated 12 December, without label, but 1932 based on content. In this strip titled ”A Determined Young Man”, Dagwood is sick in bed with a broken heart, despite being attended to by two beautiful nurses designed to take his mind off Blondie. Measures 21.25” x 5.625”. Dampstaining and soiling, overall in fair to good condition.
Fourth strip is dated 1 February 1933, just a few weeks before Blondie and Dagwood would finally marry. Titled ”The Mounties Always Get Their Man”, Blondie decides that she can’t chance losing the love of her life, agreeing that Dagwood – still recovering from his hunger strike – should be in his wheelchair during their wedding ceremony. Measures 20.75” x 5.675”. Very good plus condition. Sold for $5,363.
