Jaime Ortiz-Patino’s silver-gilt 1997 Ryder Cup trophy. Ortiz-Patino founded the Valderrama course in Sotogrande, Spain in the 1980s. With a savvy business sense and pioneering spirit, Ortiz-Patino was able to bring the famous Ryder Cup competition to his course in 1997, marking the first time the course was held in Continental Europe. The European team won the competition and retained the Ryder Cup that year. This trophy, custom-made for Ortiz-Patino to commemorate the tournament at Valderrama in 1997, is inscribed at its base, ”Ryder Cup 1997 / Valderrama”. Trophy has a mini statue of a golfer mid-swing to top and has a ”J.B. London” hallmark and is mounted to a wooden circular plinth to an overall size of approximately 12”. Trophy is in near fine condition. From Jaime Ortiz-Patino’s estate. Sold for $34,375.

Babe Didrikson Zaharias personally owned and tournament-used golf club set. The legendary athlete used these in the Tam O’Shanter’s All American Tournaments where she often emerged victorious. Set of MacGregor Tommy Armour clubs was used by Zaharias until she finalized her endorsement deal with Wilson Sporting Goods Co., and comprises: (1-2) 985T 9 Irons, (3-6) 653T Woods, (7) 152T Double Service P.P. Wedge, (8) Silver Scot #11 Wedge, (9) IMG Iron Master Putter. All housed in a Hughes patented pipe organ golf bag with four matching headcovers. With a metal tag naming ”Henry Bolesta / Golf Professional” and Zaharias’ name filled in. Bolesta was a well-known golf pro of the era and often played with Zaharias. Clubs measure 36” in length. Very good to near fine. Accompanied by two photos of Zaharias with her clubs and an LOA from the Babe Zaharias Golf Foundation. Sold for $31,250.
Ryder Cup Trophy From the 1997 Championship — One of the Few Official Trophies, Owned & Obtained from by a Former PGA President
Beautiful Ryder Cup trophy belonging to a former President of the PGA of America, and from the 1997 Ryder Cup championship. The European team squeaked out a one point win against the American squad that year, in the biennial challenge between American and European golfers. Trophy is an official Ryder Cup Trophy that rarely leaves the United Kingdom, and similar to what the squad members receive each year. Sterling silver plaque wraps around the wooden base, bearing the engraved signatures of the American team: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Fred Couples, Brad Faxon, Lee Janzen, Justin Leonard, Tom Lehman, Davis Love, III, Jim Furyk, Jeff Maggert, Mark O’Meara, Scott Hoch, and Captain Tom Kite. The name of Will Mann and ”Valderrama G.C. / 1997” is also engraved. The centerpiece of the trophy is the beautiful gold plated cup, with ”The Ryder Cup” engraved and a removable lid. Manufactured by Asprey, and with hallmarks to left of cup portion. Measures 4.5” in diameter and 12” tall. Very light tarnishing. Near fine. Sold for $18,750.

Edward, Prince of Wales Engraved Golf Scorer
Golf scorer belonging to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales in 1935 and engraved, ”HRH Prince of Wales”. Edward VIII’s bakelite scorer device by Forscor dates to circa 1935, at the very end of Edward’s term as Prince of Wales before ascending the throne in January of 1936. Features 9 wheels for recording scores at every hole, plus two at the center for scoring match play. An aperture at the bottom equips the device for convenient carry and storage. Measures 3” in diameter. Rubbing to some of the numerals, else near fine. Provenance from Sotheby’s 1987 Geneva, Switzerland sale of the Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor. Sold for $4,688.

“Down the Fairway: The Golf Life and Play of Robert T. Jones, Jr.” by Robert T. Jones, Jr. and O.B. Keeler. New York: Minton, Balch and Company: 1927. First trade edition, first printing rare book. Signed in pencil on front free end paper by golf legends Bobby Jones and Maureen Orcutt. Previous owner’s pencil signature also on ffep, as well as pencil dateline, “Pinehurst, N.C. / Mar 24 ’32.” Octavo hardcover runs 239 pages. Top edge stained green with a deckled fore-edge and bottom edge. Very good. Sold for $3,900.

Bobby Jones signed copy of his memoir, ”Golf Is My Game”, in original dust jacket. New York: Doubleday, 1960. Jones inscribes the front free endpaper, ”For Atley Kitchings / With best wishes, / Robert T. Jones Jr.” Though a lawyer by profession, Jones was the first golfer to win the Grand Slam and routinely bested top professional golfers such as Walter Hagen. Book follows Jones’ life and his record setting Grand Slam year, illustrated with drawings and photos. Book measures 6.25” x 9.5”. Dust jacket showing $4.50 price is in very good condition with minimal chipping to edges and spine. Book has light shelf wear, overall near fine. Sold for $1,094.

Rare first edition copy of “Golf in America: A Practical Manual” by James P. Lee. New York: Dodd, Mead & Company: 1895. Duodecimo volume with original mustard color pictorial cloth boards. Illustrated with photographic plates. Text is the first golf book published in America, created after the founding of the United States Golf Association in December 1894, but prior to the first season of national championships in 1895. Some soiling and buckling to front cloth board. Separation to bottom of title page. Overall, excellent condition. Sold for $791.
Tiger Woods High School Yearbook — With Early Pictures of Tiger on the Golf Team
A glimpse into the early golf life of Tiger Woods, pictured as freshman in this 1991 yearbook from Western High School in Anaheim, California. Tiger’s school photo on page 215 lists him under his given name, Eldrick Woods. On page 176, however, he is pictured in the Varsity Golf team photo, under which his name appears as Tiger Woods. On page 177, he is shown in two photos swinging, with the caption reading: ”Nationally ranked Junior Tiger Woods shows perfect form off the tee and hitting to the hole.” Bound in blue leather boards with silver lettering and design. Measures 9” x 11.25”. Slightly cocked with standard signatures, else near fine. Sold for $178.
