John F. Kennedy Presidential China — Used in The Dining Room of His Beloved Yacht the ”Honey Fitz”
John F. Kennedy china used aboard the ”Honey Fitz” yacht during his presidency. Though Presidents Truman, Eisenhower and Nixon also utilized the 92-foot watercraft, it was JFK’s heavily photographed leisure time entertaining family onboard that made the elegant ship an American icon. Kennedy bestowed the moniker ”Honey Fitz” on the vessel in honor of his grandfather. Jackie Kennedy did not replace the china in the White House when her husband took office, preferring to restore the historical china to practical use. Therefore, this plate, as part of the yacht china, was also used during the Eisenhower administration, and perhaps Truman’s as well. Eggshell-color salad plate measures 6.75” in diameter, with a height of just over an inch. Design features double bands of 24kt gold trim and a single eagle seal between two five-point stars. Maker’s mark is by Shenango China, New Castle, PA. Near fine, with only the slightest wear to the trim from use. Sold for $1,720.
