Original Artwork by Mark Poole for One of the 75 Original 1993 Limited Edition Common Cards for “Magic: The Gathering” — “Morale” Card Artwork Signed by Poole
Mark Poole is an American fantasy artist, best known for working on the first set of Magic: the Gathering cards. He graduated from University of South Carolina in 1986 with a BFA in fine arts and design. Poole works mostly in acrylic, oil and digital media. He has also worked for companies such as White Wolf Publishing, Warcraft, Sony Online Entertainment, Upper Deck and Ziggurat Games. His work was featured at FantasyCon in July 2014. His artwork featured on the Magic: the Gathering basic Island card from the Summer Magic 1994 set fetches about $600.
Scarce “Magic: The Gathering” painting by Mark Poole, one of only 75 examples of artwork for the original 1993 Alpha limited edition common card deck that started the MTG phenomenon. This “Morale” card is signed by Poole at lower right, one of the “Instant” cards showing a Knight victorious in battle. Rendered in mixed media on Strathmore artist board, artwork measures 8.125″ x 7″, double-matted to a size of 11″ x 10.125″. Near fine condition. Artwork originates from the estate of one of the first MTG distributors. Sold for $7,088.
