First edition of George Orwell’s classic futuristic novel, ”Nineteen Eighty-Four”. London: Secker & Warburg, 1949. Lime green boards are housed in the original forest green dust jacket, with the 10s. net price present on the front flap. 5.25” x 7.5” book is in very good condition with some light foxing. Dust jacket is in very good condition with some professional restoration. Sold for $2,250.

George Orwell’s First Edition, First Printing of “1984” — In Original First Impression Dustjacket
A very good copy in the preferred red dustjacket of George Orwell’s science fiction masterpiece, “1984.” First edition, first printing with “First Published 1949” printed on the copyright page. London: Secker & Warburg: 1949. In original green cloth boards with red titles to spine and top edge dyed red. Also in the original red dustjacket with the price of 10s. net on the front flap. Book is in very good plus condition with light foxing and sunning to spine. Binding is tight and square, boards are clean and interior pages have no writing. Dustjacket is in very good condition with chipping to the spine and corners, and some short tears along folds. Spine is significantly sunned and verso of jacket has some tape residue. The jacket is now protected for future preservation. A rare true first edition in the even more elusive first state red dustjacket. Sold for $1,535.

Rare first edition, first printing of one of the most desired books in the history of literature, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ”The Great Gatsby,” published by Charles Scribner’s Sons: New York: 1925, with the nearly impossible to find first printing dustjacket. Every point is present: 1925 is printed on title page; Charles Scribner’s Sons logo appears on the copyright page with no subsequent printing statements; ”chatter” appears on page 60; ”northern” appears on page 119; ”it’s” is printed on line 16 of page 165; ”sick in tired” is found on page 205; ”Union Street station” is mistyped on line 7-8 of page 211. Bound in dark green cloth boards with title and author’s name blind-stamped to front board and gilt lettering to spine. Francis Cugat’s scarce original unrestored first printing dustjacket has the lowercase ”j” in ”jay Gatsby” on the back panel hand-corrected in ink. Sold for $50,000.
Very rare ”Gone With the Wind” novel signed by the cast. New York: The MacMillan Co., 1938, later edition. Novel is signed on the front endpapers by the leading cast members: Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard, Hattie McDaniel, Ona Munson, Evelyn Keyes, Ann Rutherford, Thomas Mitchell, Carroll Nye, Oscar Polk, and unit manager William J. Scully. Underneath their signatures are the names of their ”Gone With the Wind” characters, written in another hand. Housed in a custom leather clamshell box with five raised bands and gilt lettering to spine, ”Gone With the Wind / Autographed by Twelve Members of Cast”. Book measures 6” x 9”. Toning to signature page, otherwise very good. With PSA/DNA for all actor’s signatures. Sold for $15,000.

First edition hardback in original price-clipped dustjacket is bound in red cloth boards, measuring 5.5” x 8”. Near fine condition, with small strip of dampstaining to lower edge of front board and previous owner’s name on signature page. Dustjacket is in beautiful, near fine condition with only slight wear. Rand’s celebrated final novel set in a dystopian America popularized the philosophy of Objectivism and rational self-interest. Limitation page is signed ”Ayn Rand” in blue ink and indicates this is number 721 of a 10th Anniversary signed edition limited to 2,000 such copies. At 1168pp., this is her lengthiest piece of literature. Bound in blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and top edge blue. Measures 6” x 8.75”. Some minor blue ink to spine and scratching to bottom edge, else near fine. Sold for $2,188.
