Zhou Enlai ([ʈʂóu ə́n.lǎi]; 5 March 1898 – 8 January 1976), Wade-Giles transliteration Chou En-lai, was the first Premier of the People’s Republic of China. From October 1949 until his death in January 1976, Zhou was China’s head of government. Zhou served under Chairman Mao Zedong and helped the Communist Party rise to power, later helping consolidate its control, form its foreign policy, and develop the Chinese economy.

1928/31 Chinese Civil War 800 Silver Gelatin Photos Etc
Extraordinary collection of over 800 silver gelatin photos, mostly of China during the late 1920s and early 1930s during the Chinese Civil War, with spectacular vistas alongside documentary style photos, including some that show the destruction of the city of Changsha as a result of the war. The photos were taken by B. Kenneth Anthony, a faculty member of the Yale-in-China association who traveled from his home near Boston, Massachusetts to Changsha in 1928, staying until 1931 when he had to flee the country; interestingly, Mao Zedong edited the Yale-in-China newspaper a decade earlier during his formative years in Changsha. In addition to the photos documenting the country during this uneasy time, the archive also includes nearly 100 letters written by Anthony to his family back home, with detailed content regarding the political situation as the Communists and Nationalists jockeyed for control of the region. Sold for $10,062.

Ho Chi Minh Signed Photo — Also Signed by Raul Castro From 1966
Photo signed by Ho Chi Minh during the Vietnam War, and additionally signed by Raul Castro who dates his signature to 1966. The two men appear alongside each other at a conference for Vietnam and Cuban solidarity, with the flags of two communist countries in the background. Ho Chi Minh signs both in English and Vietnamese. Information regarding the event is written upon the verso. Glossy photo measures 6.75” x 4.75”. Irregularly trimmed top edge and some buckling, otherwise near fine. Sold for $5,355.

Che Guevara Signed Photo — ”A souvenir photo to remember the resounding time / Che”
Che Guevara signed photo to his colleague Eduardo Pena. Guevara inscribes an intimate dedication to his friend, ”A Eduardo Pena / como memoria inboprable [or imborrable] del momento rotundo con recuerdo fotografico / Che”, translating to, ”To Eduardo Pena / A souvenir photo to remember the resounding time / Che”. With ”Laboratorio / Articolor” stamped to verso, photo measures 9.75” x 7.75”. Small bend to lower left, light creasing and fading to photo. Overall very good condition with bold handwriting and signature. Sold for $3,125.
