Walter Johnson 1927 Uncommon Typed Letter Signed to Fan on His Personal Stationery
Walter Perry Johnson (November 6, 1887 – December 10, 1946), nicknamed “Barney” and “The Big Train”, was an American professional baseball player and manager. He played his entire 21-year baseball career in Major League Baseball as a right-handed pitcher for the Washington Senators from 1907 to 1927. He later served as manager of the Senators from 1929 through 1932 and of the Cleveland Indians from 1933 through 1935.
Walter Johnson typed letter signed upon his personal letterhead. Dated 19 October 1927, Johnson writes to baseball fan S.E. Ogle, “I want to thank you for your kind letter, and the snapshots…I appreciate your good wishes. Sincerely yours, Walter Johnson.” Lot includes Ogle’s original letter and the two snapshots; one affixed to the letter’s verso. 7.25″ x 10.75″ letter has postmarked stamps and Ogle’s address pasted to verso. Five hole punches to left margin, intersecting mailing folds and faint tape remnants. Overall very good. Sold for $1,363.
