Here is a George Patton signed letter we have sold in the past:
George S. Patton Letter Signed From 1923 Plus Two of His Military Insignia — ”…I am not real famous, but…will send you a couple items of insignia of mine…I am a Fighting soldier…”
Very unique and interesting collectible from George S. Patton from 1923, then a student at the Command and General Staff School in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas with the rank of Major. Lot includes two of Patton’s military insignia, and also a letter signed by Patton where he references the gift to an insignia collector, with other fantastic content such as referring to himself a a ”Fighting soldier not a Clerk”. Dated 5 August 1923 on Staff School letterhead, Patton writes in part, ”…I am not real famous, but since you took the time to write I will send you a couple items of insignia of mine. A set of US collar insignia & one of my ribbons bars [both included]…I have not been in the Army long enough to build up a surplus of items. Anyway I hope you enjoy them it is my pleasure to send them to you…[signed] GS Patton Jr.” Patton then adds an amusing postscript, ”Please excuse my typing, as I am a Fighting soldier not a Clerk.” Interestingly, later that month in August 1923 Patton saved several children from drowning and was awarded the Silver Lifesaving Medal by the U.S. Coast Guard as a result. Letter measures approximately 10.5” x 7.25” with original mailing envelope. Nicely framed with the two military insignia to a size of 22.5” x 20.75”. Near fine condition. Sold for $4,326.
