Orson Welles Screen Worn Catch-22 Costume
George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was an American director, actor, screenwriter, and producer who is remembered for his innovative work in radio, theatre, and film. He is considered to be one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time. His first film was Citizen Kane (1941), which is consistently ranked as one of the greatest films ever made, and which he co-wrote, produced, directed and starred in as Charles Foster Kane. Welles released twelve other features, the most acclaimed of which include The Magnificent Ambersons (1942), The Lady from Shanghai (1947), Touch of Evil (1958), The Trial (1962), Chimes at Midnight (1965), and F for Fake (1973).[5][6] His distinctive directorial style featured layered and nonlinear narrative forms, uses of lighting such as chiaroscuro, unusual camera angles, sound techniques borrowed from radio, deep focus shots, and long takes. He has been praised as “the ultimate auteur”.
Orson Welles screen worn and custom-made costume from the acclaimed 1970 adaptation of Joseph Heller’s literary satire, “Catch-22”. Welles plays Brigadier General Dreedle in the film. Costume includes a long sleeve U.S. Army Air Corps khaki shirt with original Machin Tailor tag sewn to collar, including a misprint of his first and last name, “Tailored Especially For Orsen [sic] Wells [sic]”. Near fine. With a COA from The Golden Closet. Sold for $1,400.
