Frank Lloyd Wright Signed 1st Edition of The Buildings
Frank Lloyd Wright (June 8, 1867 – April 9, 1959) was an American architect, designer, writer, and educator. He designed more than 1,000 structures over a creative period of 70 years. Wright believed in designing in harmony with humanity and the environment, a philosophy he called organic architecture. This philosophy was exemplified in Fallingwater (1935), which has been called “the best all-time work of American architecture”. Wright played a key role in the architectural movements of the twentieth century, influencing architects worldwide through his works and hundreds of apprentices in his Taliesin Fellowship.
Frank Lloyd Wright signed first edition, fourth printing of “In the Nature of Materials: The Buildings of Frank Lloyd Wright 1887-1941” by Henry-Russell Hitchcock. Published by Duell, Sloan and Pearce: New York: 1942. Signed upon the title page by Wright, “Frank Lloyd Wright / Taliesin East / 53”. Beautifully bound in red cloth boards, with original dustjacket, volume contains 143 pages of writing and 413 chronological illustrations. Minor wear to boards and dustjacket, and four detached leaves of illustrations from 220-235. Interior is otherwise bright and clean, overall in very good plus condition. Sold for $970.
