Sell Your Henry Clay Snuff Box

Henry Clay Sr. (April 12, 1777 – June 29, 1852) was an American attorney and statesman who represented Kentucky in both the Senate and House. He was the seventh House Speaker as well as the ninth Secretary of State, also receiving electoral votes for president in the 1824, 1832, and 1844 presidential elections. He helped found both the National Republican Party and the Whig Party. For his role in defusing sectional crises, he earned the appellation of the “Great Compromiser” and was part of the “Great Triumvirate” of Congressman, alongside fellow Whig Daniel Webster and John C. Calhoun.

Captivating Vintage Faberge Red Enameled Guilloche Mirrored Vanity Case — Accented With Diamonds & Gold Imperial Eagle — Circa 1908-1915

Stunning gold and diamond guilloche vanity case by Faberge. Case features a ground engine-turned guilloche exterior, richly covered in candy apple red enamel. An Imperial eagle figure in gold is applied to front of case at the center of a starburst, and highlighted with a single diamond at its center. Case opens with a rose-cut diamond thumbpiece to a mirrored interior and a trio of compartments. Features Faberge and makers’ marks of Henrik Wigstrom and August Hollming of St. Petersburg, circa 1908-1915. Measures 3.5″ across and 2.25 deep. Weighs a substantial 9.25 ounces. Near fine. Sold for $21,013.

Beautiful John F. Kennedy Personally Owned Humidor — Gifted by Philippine Ambassador & Accompanied by 2 Unopened Philippine Cigars — All Items Custom Labeled, ”President Kennedy”

John F. Kennedy owned wooden humidor, engraved upon the hinged lid, “President Kennedy”. Humidor gifted by the Philippine Ambassador is accompanied by 2 unopened Philippine cigars of the original 26. Cigar labels are imprinted in white, “Flor Fina Coronas Alhambra Manila” on a red and gold label with a black band imprinted “Choicest Philippine Tobacco / Sumatra Wrapper”. Wrappers read in gilt, “Specially Made For President Kennedy”. Accompanied by a vintage 8″ x 10″ color photo of Kennedy smoking a cigar while reading the sports section of “The New York Times” aboard the Presidential yacht “Honey Fitz” in 1963, after receiving this gift. With John F. Kennedy Presidential Library backstamp crediting “Cecil Stoughton/White House” as the photographer. Felt lined humidor measures 10.25″ x 7″ x 2″. Some fabric loss to lining and rubbing to edges, else near fine condition. Cigars measure 5.25″. Near fine. Lot also includes copies of correspondences between Kennedy and Amelito R. Mutuc, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines. The text of one letter, courtesy of the JFK Presidential Library, reads in part: “Dear Mr. Ambassador: I have received the handsome, personalized, mahogany box of very fine cigars that you so thoughtfully sent to me. It was indeed kind of you to send such a generous supply of this excellent product. I know I will enjoy them and consider your gift another demonstration of the warm friendship existing between our countries. With appreciation and every good wish to you and your family. Sincerely, John F. Kennedy”. Also included is a small sheet of Ambassador Mutuc’s stationery addressed in a secretarial hand to: “The President / The White House / Washington, D.C.”, which likely accompanied the box of cigars, plus a copy of a letter from Carlos P. Romulo, Philippine Ambassador to the United States, dated 16 April 1961, to President Kennedy: “When the Manila papers recently published a picture of yours holding a cigar, a Philippine newspaper suggested that it may be a good idea to let you sample what we believe are the best cigars in the world. President Garcia has asked me to extend to you his personal greetings and to present you with these boxes of Philippine cigars with his compliments…” Finally, lot includes copy of a letter from President Kennedy to Romulo, dated 14 August 1961: “…Many, many thanks for the fine cigars…” Sold for $15,813.

Mary of Teck Silver Cigarette Case Gifted to Her Son Prince Edward in 1913

Cigarette case gifted by Mary of Teck to her son Prince Edward in 1913. Silver case features an allover reeded design and gilt interior. An engraved line within reads, ”David from Mama, Xmas 1913”. Though Edward’s full name is Edward Albert Christian George Andrew Patrick David, the royal family referred to him as David. Case opens with a jewel-encrusted thumb piece to a gilt interior featuring a vesta compartment and fusee aperture. By W. Hornby, 1909. Bears British import marks L.C.B & Co., Ltd., 1925. Measures approximately 3.5” x 2.25” x 0.75”. Near fine. Provenance from Sotheby’s sale, The Jewels of the Duchess of Windsor, held in Geneva on 3 April 1987, lot 218. Sold for $12,183.

Exquisite Vintage Faberge Crystal & Silver Box — Circa 1908-1915

Faberge cut crystal box from the early part of the 20th century. Box features an all-crystal body with a star and diamond design motif, topped with a silver lid. Maker’s mark reads ”K. Faberge” with imperial warrant. Made in Moscow, circa 1908-1915. Measures 5.5” across, 3.75” deep and 2.25” in height. Weighs 1 pound, 8 ounces. Near fine with a beautiful and intricate cut design. Sold for $11,858.

John F. Kennedy Personally Owned & Monogrammed Cigar Box — Given as a Gift by Jackie Kennedy After JFK’s Death

Handsome and historic cigar box personally owned by cigar aficionado, President John F. Kennedy, whose monogram ”JFK” appears on the lid of the box. This humidor was personally given by Jackie Kennedy to Jack Spangenburg after JFK’s death for appreciation of Spangenburg’s service to the family; he had worked for JFK before the President’s death and then worked for the Robert Kennedy family until 1977. In the accompanying LOA, Spangenburg writes, ”Around 1962, the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos, sent four (4) cigar boxes to President John F. Kennedy with the President’s initials, JFK, carved into the top upper left corner…Sometime after 1963, Mrs. J. Kennedy arrived at Robert Kennedy’s home. When I answered the door, she handed me one of the Ferdinand Marcos’ cigar boxes and said, ‘This is for you, Jack, for the many years of services for the Kennedy families.’ I thanked her and was appreciative of what she gave me.” Tabacalera brand hinged wooden box has ”JFK” elaborately carved into the top. Removable wood insert is included. Box measures 17.75” x 8” x 3.5” deep. Near fine condition. From the estate of Jack Spangenburg, longtime Kennedy family employee and author of ”Moonlighting As a Butler: Serving the Kennedys 1960-1977”. Sold for $8,250.

Ronald & Nancy Reagan Personally Owned Russian Box — Displayed at the White House

Russian box from the personal collection of President Ronald and Nancy Reagan, owned and used by them in the Presidential years at the Family Residence in the White House and then at their Bel Air, California home. Red lacquered box opens to reveal a red lacquered interior. The box may have been obtained during the Reagans historic trip to Russia during the 1988 Moscow Summit. Upon leaving the White House, the Reagans marked their possessions with a green sticker to designate which of their belongings had been displayed with them during their Presidential years; this box has this round green sticker on its underside. Underside of box reads ”Made in USSR” and top of box has wording in Russian. Box was originally sold at Christie’s in New York, and has Christie’s stickers on the bottom and inside. Measures 1.25” x 2.75”. Near fine condition. Sold for $1,500.

Curio Box Stocked With Items Personally Owned by Ray Bradbury

Ray Bradbury personally owned box of jewelry and odds and ends. Assorted items include 14 matched pairs of cufflinks, Bradbury’s hard contact lenses, pins, tie pins, key ring, March of Dimes medallion from 1939, coins, keys, poker chip and a stamp. Highlights include a tie clip with an enamel outer space scene, large skull and Maltese cross pin with red gem eyes, pair of cufflinks made of jade or similar green stone with a matching tie chain, a pair of amethyst cufflinks that appear gold-dipped and a pterodactyl-shaped metal bracelet with a blue geodesic crystal in its claws. Items measure from less than 0.5” to 2.5”. Box measures 10” x 7.5” x 2”. Plenty of dust and tarnish to coins, but most pieces are very good to near fine condition. With a COA from the Ray Bradbury estate. Sold for $1,250.
