Abraham Lincoln Signed CDV as President — John Hay Certifies Signature as Authentic on Verso
Exceptionally rare Abraham Lincoln signed carte-de-visite photograph, taken by Alexander Gardner in 1861 and signed as President. Signed ”A. Lincoln” below the seated portrait of Lincoln. John Hay, Lincoln’s private secretary, authenticates the signature upon the verso by writing, ”I certify that the President’s signature is genuine / John Hay”. With ”Brady’s National Portrait Gallery” backstamp. Measures 2.5” x 3.75”. Very good with some foxing and wear, but with a strong signature by Lincoln. With provenance from Profiles in History and with a COA from Charles Hamilton. Sold for $49,913.
John F. Kennedy & Jackie Kennedy Signed Photo Measuring 9″ x 13.25″ — Also Signed by Photographer, Alfred Eisenstaedt
Evocative photograph signed by John F. Kennedy and Jackie Kennedy as they campaigned for the Presidency in 1960. Silver gelatin photograph is also signed at lower right by Alfred Eisenstaedt, who took the photo and writes about it on the verso, “This…shows John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy on a campaign trip to New York City in September 1960, after he was chosen by the Democratic Convention to be their standard bearer. Please put it in your collection, I think it is very valuable. Eisenstaedt”. Jacqueline Kennedy inscribes the front of the photo to “Eisie”, the nickname used by Eisenstaedt’s friends and family, “with gratitude” after which the future President and First Lady sign their names, “John Kennedy” and “Jacqueline Kennedy”. With Eisenstaedt’s stamp on verso, “PHOTO BY ALFRED EISENSTAEDT” as well as a stamp by Life magazine. Photo measures 9″ x 13.25″. Small crease to lower right, overall in very good to near fine condition. From Alfred Eisenstaedt’s estate and with University Archives COA for both signatures. Sold for $10,000.

Thomas Edison and Henry Ford signed photo, dated 28 March 1915 via copyright marking. Photo depicts Edison posing with Henry Ford, both of whom had winter homes nearby each other in Florida. Signed along mat, “Thos A Edsion” and beside his signature, “Henry Ford” with “To Hutch” written above signatures in an unknown hand. Black and white photo measures 9.75″ x 7.5″ and is mounted to a mat to an overall size of 13″ x 11″. Near fine condition. Sold for $3,490.
Oil mogul John D. Rockefeller signed stock certificate for Standard Oil Trust. Stock is signed ”J.D. Rockefeller” as company President. Certificate for 100 shares in the United States’ first giant business trust is dated 26 December 1884, made out to Eliza J. Sweetser with serial number A468. Countersigned by Henry Flagler as Secretary, and the Treasurer. Stock measures 16” x 7.75”. Glue remnants where stub has been attached to stock, overall in very good to near fine condition. Sold for $2,330.

Oil mogul John D. Rockefeller Standard Oil Trust stock certificate signed ”J.D. Rockefeller” as company President. Certificate for 10 shares in the United States’ first giant business trust is dated 22 May 1899 and made out to H.M. Flager, the company secretary and one of the six original Standard Oil co-founders. Countersigned by Flagler and also by the treasurer. With serial number 5777 and a cancellation stamp dated 20 June 1890. Measures 15.5” x 7.75”. Near fine. Sold for $1,875.

Rare Andrew Carnegie autograph letter signed dated 8 April 1861. Letter concerning new rail schedules reads in part “Under new schedules there will only be about an hour between the Express East.I thought it much better to stop the East Line.” 1pp. ink document measures 7.5″ x 9.75″, written on Pennsylvania Railroad stationery. Very good condition. Sold for $1,568.
