1971 Topps Baseball Unopened Wax Box

1971 Topps Baseball box of 24 sealed packs. Box is from the fourth series, which includes Hank Aaron and Nolan Ryan. For the first time in 1957, Topps put full year-by-year statistics for the player’s entire career on the back of the card. Over the next few years, Topps alternated between this format and merely showing the past season plus career totals. The practice of showing complete career statistics became permanent in 1963, except for one year, 1971, when Topps sacrificed the full statistics in order to put a player photo on the back of the card as well. Box sealed in plastic measures approximately 8″ x 7″ x 1.5″. Wear along edges and to corners, overall excellent condition. Sold by us. Worth over $70,000 now.

Larry Jansen 1950’s Worn Baseball Glove — From the Larry Jansen Estate & Personally Kept by Him for Over 60 Years

Lawrence Joseph Jansen (July 16, 1920 – October 10, 2009) was an American right-handed pitcher and coach in Major League Baseball. A native of Oregon, he played minor league baseball in the early 1940s before starting his Major League career in 1947 with the New York Giants. Jansen played nine seasons in the big leagues, and was twice an All-Star, winning 122 games in all. He later coached in the Major Leagues and minor leagues. Jansen is a member of the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame and the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame.

The San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball originated in New York City as the New York Gothams in 1883 and were known as the New York Giants from 1885 until the team relocated to San Francisco after the 1957 season. During most of their 75 seasons in New York City, the Giants played home games at various incarnations of the Polo Grounds in Upper Manhattan.

Larry Jansen’s own Wilson A2000 ”Smash Action” baseball glove used by Jansen in the 1950’s as a pitcher for the New York Giants. ”JANSEN” is written on the glove in two spots, almost branded into the leather, as well as ”46” written in marker along the stitching, presumably his uniform number, which indeed was ”46” when he played for the 1950 National League All-Stars. Glove is broken-in and clearly has caught many a ball in its time. Very good condition. From the Larry Jansen estate. Sold for $832.
