The Shining is a 1977 horror novel by American author Stephen King. It is King’s third published novel and first hardback bestseller, and the success of the book firmly established King as a preeminent author in the horror genre. The setting and characters are influenced by King’s personal experiences, including both his visit to The Stanley Hotel in 1974 and his struggle with alcoholism. The novel was adapted into a 1980 film of the same name. The book was followed by a sequel, Doctor Sleep, published in 2013.

Winnifred “Wendy” Torrance is a fictional character and protagonist of the 1977 horror novel The Shining by the American writer Stephen King. She also appears in the prologue of Doctor Sleep, a 2013 sequel to The Shining.

Stephen King signed first edition, first printing of “The Shining”. New York: Doubleday & Co., 1977. King inscribes the front free endpaper, “Stephen King / 1/23/92”. A near fine copy in tan and black boards measuring 5.75″ x 8.5″ with first edition points present: “R49” code on page 447, and “FIRST EDITION” statement on copyright page. First printing dust jacket is also near fine, with $8.95 price intact. Lot includes a fun pictorial survey from “The Stanley Hotel” requesting feedback on the guest experience. Sold for $2,000.

Stephen King Signed First Printing of “The Shining”

Bestselling author Stephen King signed first edition, first printing of his horror classic “The Shining.” Doubleday & Company: Garden City, NY: 1977. King signs in black ink upon the front free endpaper dated 23 January 1992. This was King’s third published novel, after the popular “Salem’s Lot” and “Carrie.” Bound in black and gold cloth boards, with gilt lettering on backstrip. First printing mark R49 on the final page 447. Unclipped dustjacket lists the price of $8.95. Includes customer satisfaction card from the Stanley Hotel, the historic Colorado building that inspired King’s location choice for the novel. Book measures 5.75″ x 8.5″. Slight bumping to backstrip and minor creasing to dustjacket. Near fine. Sold for $1,800.

Signed Copy of Stephen King’s First Novel, ”Carrie” — First Edition, First Printing in Near Fine Condition

Signed and inscribed first printing of Stephen King’s first published novel, ”Carrie.” Doubleday & Co., Inc.: Garden City, NY: 1974. First edition, first impression (with code ”P6” printed in the gutter of page 199). Inscribed by Stephen King in black ink on the half-title page, ”For Tim – Be well, Stephen King / 6/24/88.” In publisher’s original maroon cloth with gilt spine titles and deckled fore-edge. With very minor shelf wear and new endpapers. Dustjacket is slightly rubbed with a tiny tear to the foot of the spine. A near fine copy of the author’s breakout novel. Sold for $1,477.

Advanced uncorrected proof of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger.” United Kingdom: Sphere Books: 1988. Illustrated by Michael Whelan. Extremely rare advanced uncorrected proof of the first installment of King’s Dark Tower series. Creasing to all pages and spine at top left corner; binding remains tight. Overall in very good condition. Sold for $1,460.

Stephen King First Edition ”The Stand” Signed From 1979

Stephen King signed first edition of ”The Stand,” Doubleday & Co.: Garden State: 1978. The horror author adds his autograph inscription in blue ink to the front free endpaper: ”To Jeff – Thanks for the nice notice in the Times – All Best, Stephen King / 9/8/79.” With ”Carrie,” ”Salem’s Lot” and ”The Shining” under his belt, King wrote this novel, his fourth, as a fantasy epic, set in a post-apocalyptic southwestern United States. Runs 823pp. Bound in manila paper boards with a black cloth spine and gilt lettering. Toning to leaves, else near fine. With near fine dustjacket save for toning and housed in a black and white magnetic slipcase to an overall size of 6.5” x 9.5” x 3”. Sold for $1,250.

Kurt Russell Prop Pistol, Rifle, Pocket Watch, Shirt & Hat From His Famous Role as Wyatt Earp in ”Tombstone”

Kurt Russell lot of screen-used items from from his critically-acclaimed role as wild west lawman Wyatt Earp in ”Tombstone”. Includes: (1) Non-firing replica Winchester rifle was presumably used in one of the film’s famous shootouts, including the famed Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The Winchester was one of the earliest repeat-fire rifles known as the ”Gun that Won the West.” Metal gun with wooden base measures 38” x 4” base with some minor tarnishing. (2) Replica Waltham pocket watch and chain. Watch measures 2” in diameter with a 13” chain. (3) Replica non-firing Schofield pistol with a wooden butt measures 13.5” x 5.5”. (4) Black felt hat with large rim. With ”Mr. Russell” written by hand to inside of hat. Measures 16” including rim x 6” and a 7 and 3/8 diameter. (5) White button-down ”Harry Fitzgerald” shirt measures 16” shoulder to shoulder and 34” in length. Overall near fine condition. Includes original prop tag notating the rifle, film, and Kurt Russell. Sold for $4,160.

Ingrid Bergman ”Joan of Arc” Sword

Sword prop procured for use by Hollywood legend Ingrid Bergman in the title role in “Joan of Arc”. Solid metal prop sword is painted to appear housed in its scabbard, made to look like wood with metal bindings and red decoration. Measures 42″ in length. Scattered chipping to paint, else near fine. Provenance from the Butterfield & Butterfield auction of Entertainment Memorabilia, held 26-27 June 1995, lot 495, and with a copy of the auction listing. Sold for $3,125.

Mark Hamill Signed Lightsaber

Mark Richard Hamill (ˈhæmɪl/; born September 25, 1951) is an American actor, voice actor, and writer. He is best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars film series. His other notable film appearances include Corvette Summer (1978) and The Big Red One (1980). Hamill has also appeared on stage in several theater productions, primarily during the 1980s.

Luke Skywalker is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the original film trilogy of the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. Portrayed by Mark Hamill, Luke first appeared in Star Wars (1977), and he returned in The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). Three decades later, he portrayed the character in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, appearing in all three films: The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Mark Hamill signed lightsaber, a perfect 1:1 scale replica of the elegant Jedi weapon used by Hamill as Luke Skywalker in ”Star Wars”. Signed by Hamill in black felt-tip on the white blade portion, dramatic lightsaber measures 43” long and approximately 6.75” in diameter at the handle. Near fine condition, ideal for display. Accompanied with a display stand, and with COA from Celebrity Authentics. Sold for $3,500.

Mel Gibson’s Braveheart Prop Weapon — Used in Onscreen Slayings of English Soldiers

Mel Gibson’s prop weapon from the Academy Award-winning 1995 historical film ”Braveheart.” Gibson directed and starred as William Wallace in the 13th century drama, which was loosely based on the Scottish War of Independence from King Edward I’s England. Gibson as Wallace slayed a handful of English soldiers with this piece during the war epic’s first battle scene. ”Braveheart” won Best Picture and Gibson won Best Director at the 1996 Oscars. Features silver-painted rubber affixed to a wooden handle. Measures 25” tall x 10.25” across at the widest point. Near fine. With provenance from Profiles in History. Sold for $2,520.

Special Effects Sword Used in ”Braveheart” Battle Scenes

Prop sword from the battle scenes of the 1995 epic film ”Braveheart.” This unique prop weapon features a spring mechanism within that allows the end of the sword to collapse into itself for realistic-looking impaling action and immediate re-use. Made of metal with a faux-wood handle. Features a distressed finish. Near fine. With provenance from the film’s Special Effects team. Sold for $1,420.
