Scarce President Woodrow Wilson Official White House China Plate

Rare White House china plate commissioned by President and First Lady Wilson. Made by Lenox, one of the United States’ only producers of ”bone china”, which is distinguished for its white luminosity and chip resistance. Verso of plate features the famed Lenox official watermark, ”Exhibit Collection for Lenox Inc. / The White House 1918”. As a part of the ”exhibit collection” which prominently displayed china in the White House or was offered on loan to various Presidential exhibits. Plate depicts the Great Seal of the U.S. at center in gilt, with a border of two gold bands. Plate measures 10.5” in diameter and is in fine condition. Sold for $3,125.

President Woodrow Wilson Signed Speech Asking for a Declaration of War Against Germany — Most Important Wilson Content One Could Hope to Own

Incredible signed speech by President Woodrow Wilson, triggering the start of World War I. Historic speech printed in booklet form, “Address of the President of the United States, Delivered at a Joint Session of the Two Houses of Congress, April 2, 1917″ in which Wilson asks the U.S. Congress for a declaration of war on Germany. Signed at the conclusion in black ink by Wilson. Booklet measures 6″ x 9”, runs ten pages, issued by the Government Printing Office. Two horizontal folds, partial separation to front cover, mounting remnants to back cover and mild handling wear; overall very good condition. An important piece of Presidential, American and world military history. Sold for $3,000.

Naval commission appoints Vice Admiral Stuart Elliot, who won the Medal of Honor in Veracruz, to the rank of Medical Director of the Navy (equivalent to Captain). Document is signed, ”Woodrow Wilson” and ”Franklin D. Roosevelt / Acting” and measures 16” x 20” with official blue seal intact at lower center. Some toning and scuffing, else very good condition. Sold for $1,511.

Abraham Lincoln Signed CDV as President — John Hay Certifies Signature as Authentic on Verso

Exceptionally rare Abraham Lincoln signed carte-de-visite photograph, taken by Alexander Gardner in 1861 and signed as President. Signed ”A. Lincoln” below the seated portrait of Lincoln. John Hay, Lincoln’s private secretary, authenticates the signature upon the verso by writing, ”I certify that the President’s signature is genuine / John Hay”. With ”Brady’s National Portrait Gallery” backstamp. Measures 2.5” x 3.75”. Very good with some foxing and wear, but with a strong signature by Lincoln. With provenance from Profiles in History and with a COA from Charles Hamilton. Sold for $49,913.

Abraham Lincoln 1860 Campaign Ribbon With the Desirable “Cooper Union” Photographic Portrait

Abraham Lincoln campaign ribbon for the 1860 presidential election, featuring his photographic portrait taken by Mathew Brady during the session at Cooper Union, where Lincoln delivered the speech that catapulted him to national prominence. This ribbon is among the most desirable of Lincoln campaign mementos, also bearing Lincoln’s printed signature at bottom. Ribbon measures 2.5″ x 7.25″. Some soiling at edges and a few small spots of foxing, but Lincoln’s image is nearly defect free. Very good condition. Sold for $2,375.

 Alf Landon “Land On” Washington Presidential Button

A beautiful example of one of the most collectible Presidential campaign buttons, the 1.25″ Alf Landon “Land On” Washington button for his 1936 campaign. This clever design shows Landon in a plane (capitalizing on the popularity of aviation at the time) about to descend on Washington, DC. Pin measures 1.25″ in diameter, with none of the usual foxing typically found on these buttons. With fully intact celluloid, in near fine condition. This is one of only approximately 50 examples of this button known to exist. Sold for $2,000.
