Here are some hockey items that our auction house, Nate D. Sanders (http://www.NateDSanders.com) has sold:
Montreal Canadiens Stanley Cup trophy from the 1976-77 season, a team widely viewed as the best hockey team of all time. Trophies were given out to players and executives, with this particular trophy issued to assistant general manager Ron Caron. The 76-77 Canadiens had a staggering 60-8-12 record, and swept the Boston Bruins en route to their 20th Stanley Cup championship. Trophy’s text is written in French, and displays the name ”Club De Hockey Canadiens / 1976-77” followed by the names of the executives and all the players on the squad. Written near the bowl of the cup is the phrase ”From Stanley of Preston”. Silver trophy sits on a circular black composite base with a green felt bottom. Measures 13” in height and 5.75” in diameter. Some minor tarnishing to the silver, else near fine. Sold for $9,983.
1964-65 Montreal Canadians Dick Duff Miniature Stanley Cup Championship Presentational Trophy
Originally obtained from the Montreal Canadians Dick Duff, here we offer his presentational miniature Stanley Cup trophy from the 1964-65 season. It commemorates the start of the Montreal Canadians’ so-called ”quiet dynasty” of the 1960s, one which included four Cup triumphs in five years. Come playoff time, the Habs took out Toronto in six games before edging Chicago in a seven-game final. Inaugural Conn Smythe Trophy recipient Jean Beliveau scored the Cup-winner in a 4-0 win on Forum ice, Gump Worsley posted his second shutout of the finals. A great 13” showpiece. The cup and middle section of this spectacular piece remain perfectly intact, with typical tarnishing throughout. Each team member’s names from the memorable squad have been exquisitely engraved on the front, while no major dings or scrapes exist. Personal trophies from Stanley Cup winners are extremely tough to come by. With Dick Duff COA. Sold for $9,279.
Herb Brooks Game-Worn 1970 Team USA Jersey — Scarce Game-Worn Jersey by Famed “Miracle on Ice” Coach
Very scarce game-worn hockey jersey by Herb Brooks, legendary coach of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team which miraculously shut down the Soviet’s expectation of taking home gold. Jersey is from the 1970 World Championship games, where Brooks played for Team USA, and features his number “4” on the back and “USA” stitched on the front. Red, white and blue Cosby jersey runs a size 48. With a letter of authenticity from Brooks’ first cousin, to whom Brooks gave this jersey. Additional provenance includes copies of photos of the cousin wearing the jersey in the 1970’s and a copy of the postcard that Brooks sent the family from the 1968 Grenoble Olympics. Jersey is in very good condition with very little yellowing to the white color. A fantastic piece, perhaps the only game-worn Herb Brooks jersey available on the market. Sold for $8,750.
