Wrubel composed the music and co-writer Ray Gilbert wrote the lyrics to the song from the soundtrack of the Walt Disney musical “Song of The South”. Immediately recognized as special in its day, “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah” has endured as one of the most beloved songs of the 20th century, and is the current song for the Disney theme park ride “Splash Mountain”. Oscar statue is a knight figure posed perfectly symmetrically with a crusader’s sword, and standing on a film reel, the five spokes of which represent actors, writers, directors, producers and technicians. Gold-plated brittanium statue sits atop a black lacquered metal base bearing plaques labeling the award. Underside of the base is lined in felt. Measures 13.25″ in height and weighs 6 pounds, 5 ounces. Figure shows a light allover sprinkling of corrosion and chipping to finish on the base, otherwise near fine with a bright gold finish, and displaying nicer than most Oscars of its period. From the Wrubel estate. Sold for $125,000.

Disney Original Concept Painting From 1964 for “It’s a Small World” by Mary Blair — Measures 20″ x 15″
“It’s a Small World” original concept painting, created in 1964 for Walt Disney by Mary Blair, a “Disney Legend” who designed concept art for “Cinderella”, “Alice in Wonderland” and “Peter Pan”. Originally a pavilion at the 1964 World’s Fair, “It’s a Small World” captured the attention of Walt Disney, who commissioned Mary Blair to adapt it into a ride at Disneyland. Her subsequent artwork is presented here — a gorgeous 1960s inspired castle-themed piece in colors of pink, green and gold against a contrasting black background. The entrance to the ride is clearly evident in the artwork, referencing Blair’s mod-castle aesthetic with soft colors. Board measures 20″ x 15″. Light edge wear and pinholes at corners, otherwise near fine. Beautiful, large concept art for the iconic Disney attraction. Sold for $15,332.

Walt Disney signed animation cel used in Disney’s 1940 classic “Pinocchio”, the groundbreaking follow-up to the first full length Disney animated film, ”Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”. Very large cel, featuring Pinocchio & Jiminy Cricket, measures 4.5″ x 5.5″, with original background measuring 7.5″ by 9.5″, and mat measuring 15″ x 16″ upon which Disney signs, “To Gorden Crier / Best Wishes / Walt Disney”. Disney gifted Gordon Crier the cel after Crier produced a BBC program about Disney in the late 1940s, at the conclusion of which Disney asked Crier what his favorite cartoon was, to which Crier replied, “Pinocchio”. With Courvoisier Galleries sticker affixed to backing certifying that both the background and cel were used in the filming of “Pinocchio”. Walt Disney Productions stamp appears on mat, above Disney’s signature, reading “original / WDP”. Uniform toning to mat and small amount of abrasion to edges. Cel itself is near fine. With an LOA from Crier’s daughter and a COA from Phil Sears. A rare, special Disney signed cel from one of the classics in animated film, also unusual for its size. Sold for $12,000.
