Faberge Vase From The Last Days of the Company’s Pre-Bolshevik Era — Stunning
Perfect silver Faberge vase crafted circa 1908-1917, just before the Bolshevik take-over of the company and when Faberge produced its most exquisite objects. Ribbed bombe vase on a circular foot features applied filigree and cloisonne in white, blue, sea green and purple enamels. Stamped in Russian, ”K. Faberge” with the imperial warrant, Moscow and also ”91”. The inventory number is engraved clearly: ”35280”. A stylized V-shaped stamped character is likely a Faberge workmaster’s mark. Measures 4.25” in height and 5.5” deep at its widest. The diameter of the mouth measures 4.75” and the base, 3.75”. Light tarnishing with occasional scratching and loss of colored enamel, else near fine. A beautiful representation of the Faberge company during Imperial Russia. Sold for $21,013.

Stunning gold and diamond guilloche vanity case by Faberge. Case features a ground engine-turned guilloche exterior, richly covered in candy apple red enamel. An Imperial eagle figure in gold is applied to front of case at the center of a starburst, and highlighted with a single diamond at its center. Case opens with a rose-cut diamond thumbpiece to a mirrored interior and a trio of compartments. Features Faberge and makers’ marks of Henrik Wigstrom and August Hollming of St. Petersburg, circa 1908-1915. Measures 3.5″ across and 2.25 deep. Weighs a substantial 9.25 ounces. Near fine. Sold for $21,013.

Louisa May Alcott signed ”Little Women,” published by Roberts Brothers: Boston 1880. Impossible to find, the author’s signature within her masterpiece reads: ”L.M. Alcott” upon the fly-leaf. An Alcott signed instance of ”Little Women” has not been sold at auction in over 4 decades. First published in 1869, Alcott’s spellbinding novel about four sisters coming of age in the Civil War era has since become a classic. This edition is bound in hunter green cloth boards with gilt and black lettering and design. All edges gilt. Measures 7” x 8.5”. Surface loss to exterior corners and edges. Cracking to interior front hinge, with detached front free endpaper. A bookplate affixed to the front pastedown indicates this volume was gifted to the Brookline Public Library in 1917. In addition, the library’s perforated label appears at the bottom of the title page. A news clipping of Alcott’s obituary has been affixed to integral blanks. A label affixed to the rear pastedown reads: ”This book is for use in the library building only” and a barcode label has been partially removed from the rear free endpaper, else very good. In this rare missive by the “Frankenstein” author, Shelley writes to the Italian nobleman Bartolomeo Cini regarding letters written by her late husband Percy Shelley to Cini’s mother-in-law, the writer Margaret King, which Shelley hoped to acquire. Sold for $4,950.

Scarce Leo Tolstoy Autograph on Signed Vintage Photo Postcard — With PSA/DNA COA
Very rare autograph by the Russian literary genius, Leo Tolstoy. Tolstoy signs his name, “Leo Tolstoi” below his image on a striking postcard capturing the writer as an elderly man. The card verso is postmarked in Russian for 1909, one year before his death. The recipient is a Herrn Richard Stern in Vienna, Austria. Postcard measures 3.5″ x 5.5″ with some silvering to photo and slight wear to the edges. Very good condition. Scarce. With PSA/DNA COA. Sold for $3,500.
