Rare Jules Rimet FIFA World Cup Trophy From 1970 — The Last Year of the Jules Rimet Trophy
Jules Rimet World Cup trophy from 1970. Trophy boasts the look and dimensions of designer Abel Lafleur’s original double-sided 1930 model, complete with gilt metal figure of Nike, the winged Grecian victory goddess, holding a decagonal cup overhead. Figure is attached to an octagonal base of black marble. Base sides feature engraved plaques reading, (1) “Coupe Du Monde De Football Association / Coupe Jules Rimet”, (2) “Winners 1930 Uruguay / 1934 Italy / 1938 Italy”, (3) “Winners 1950 Uruguay / 1954 Germany / 1958 Brazil”, and (4) “Winners 1962 Brazil / 1966 England / 1970 Brazil”. Accompanied by original wooden case lined in red velvet. Statue measures 13.5″ in height. Statue is in fine condition. Sold for $34,769.
Jaime Ortiz-Patino’s silver-gilt 1997 Ryder Cup trophy. Ortiz-Patino founded the Valderrama course in Sotogrande, Spain in the 1980s. With a savvy business sense and pioneering spirit, Ortiz-Patino was able to bring the famous Ryder Cup competition to his course in 1997, marking the first time the course was held in Continental Europe. The European team won the competition and retained the Ryder Cup that year. This trophy, custom-made for Ortiz-Patino to commemorate the tournament at Valderrama in 1997, is inscribed at its base, ”Ryder Cup 1997 / Valderrama”. Trophy has a mini statue of a golfer mid-swing to top and has a ”J.B. London” hallmark and is mounted to a wooden circular plinth to an overall size of approximately 12”. Wilbur Shaw’s 1935 Indianapolis 500 Jacket — Given to Him as an Inaugural Member of The ”Champion 100 Mile an Hour Club” — From the Wilbur Shaw Estate
Wilbur Shaw’s ”Champion 100 Mile an Hour Club” jacket. Bomber jacket was awarded to Shaw in 1935, as one of the very first 12 Indianapolis 500 drivers to finish the entire 500 miles without relief at a remarkable average speed in excess of 100 miles per hour. The club was founded in 1935 by Champion ad executive, M.C. deWitt as the ”Champion Spark Plugs 100 mph Club”. Fully-lined brown leather jacket features a yellow Club applique on the front and a patch sewn within, embroidered with Shaw’s name. Its label identifies the leather as genuine pony skin and its brand as Knopf Sportswear. Wear and fading, with some scattered fraying to lining and knit cuffs, else near fine. From the Wilbur Shaw estate. Very rare Indianapolis 500 memorabilia. Sold for $15,625.

Race-Car Legend Wilbur Shaw’s Trophy From His Induction Into The Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1991
Motorsports Hall of Fame trophy from Wilbur Shaw’s induction. Shaw’s son accepted the trophy on his late father’s behalf at the June 1991 ceremony. Shaw’s phenomenal racing career saw him win the Indianapolis 500 three times, and in 1940 set a record as the first driver to win it two years in a row. Trophy, named, ”Horsepower”, is a winged horse of cast iron on a wooden base. Measures 13.75” in height. Base diameter measures 4.75”. Weighs a mighty 20 pounds. Near fine. Sold for $6,083.
Early Wilbur Shaw Racing Trophy From The Bernbach National Championship in 1924
Wilbur Shaw trophy from one of his first seasons in his racing career, when he won the Bernbach National Championship. Shaw saw this victory on 28 September 1924 in the Light Car Class at the Hawthorne Track in Chicago. Measures 14.75” in total height, with a 5.5” diameter base. Silver-plated trophy cup shows some denting and flattening to the rim, with some loss to silver plate, else good. Sold for $5,027.

First place trophy awarded to Wilbur Shaw from the 100 Mile Race, held at Northampton Track on 11 July 1926. Silver trophy cup is engraved across front, ”Awarded By Huntsbery A.G. / To Winner of 100 Mile Race / Northhampton Track / July 11th 1926”. Trophy measures 12.75” in height and 10” across from handle to handle. Some loss to silver plating and break from base, else very good. From the Wilbur Shaw Estate. Sold for $3,750.
