Alf “Land On” Washington Button for FDR’s 1936 Republican Challenger — Alf Landon — Near Fine
A beautiful example of one of the most collectible Presidential campaign buttons, the 1.25″ Alf Landon “Land On” Washington button for his 1936 campaign. This clever design shows Landon in a plane (capitalizing on the popularity of aviation at the time) about to descend on Washington, DC. Pin measures 1.25″ in diameter, with none of the usual foxing typically found on these buttons. With fully intact celluloid, in near fine condition. This is one of only approximately 50 examples of this button known to exist. Sold for $2,000.
The following are some additional campaign items we sold:
1900 Presidential candidate William McKinley and running mate Theodore Roosevelt promotional campaign umbrella. Umbrella has six panels, two with portraits of McKinley, two of Roosevelt, and two of American flags. Umbrella fabric is cotton cloth; its handle is made of wood with metal infrastructure atop. Umbrella measures 36” open and 33.5” in length. Umbrella is very delicate from age and two sides have come loose from their metal prongs. Some staining and wear to fabric. Good condition with all panels intact. Sold for $1,791.

Dwight D. Eisenhower Owned ”IKE” Elephant Campaign Pin
Dwight D. Eisenhower jeweled campaign pin gifted by him to his secretary. Republican elephant pin reading ”IKE” is from his 1952 presidential campaign, and features enamel tusks and a red and white gem cluster. Pin was gifted to Helen Weaver North, who served as personal secretary to Eisenhower at the White House from 1953-1957 and prior, at NATO headquarters in Paris in 1951. Pin measures just over 1/2 square inches. Chipping to enamel and light tarnishing to metal, else fine. Accompanied by an LOA signed ”David North”, stating: ”My mother, Helen Weaver North, was General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s personal secretary at NATO Headquarters in Paris from 1951 and his secretary at the White House from 1953-1957. This is to certify that the ornate 1952 IKE elephant campaign pin pictured below was given by President Eisenhower to my mother…” Sold for $954.

Commemorative lighter from a re-election campaign picnic held at President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Gettysburg Farm on 12 September 1956. Silver lighter, manufactured by ”Bowers Sure Fire” out of Kalamazoo, Michigan reads, ”Campaign Picnic / Eisenhower Farm / September 12, 1956 / The President and Mrs. Eisenhower”. Lighter measures 1.5” x 2”. Near fine. Sold for $605.
