Unmistakably Pablo Picasso terre de faience (earthenware) plaque ”Le Dejeuner Sur L’herbe” (”Lunch on the Grass”) created at the famed Madoura pottery studio in the south of France, where Picasso collaborated the last 25 years of his life. Painted 24” x 20” plaque is Picasso’s own artist proof, apart from the very limited edition of 50 made by Picasso in his quintessential style in 1964. Inscribed ”Edition Editeur”, with both the Empreinte Originale de Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 24” x 20”. In very good plus condition with a few minute chips along verso of right edge. Number 517 in Alan Ramie’s ”Picasso, Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works, 1947-1971”. Sold for $55,125.

Plate glazed in colors was created in 1963, numbered 443/500 and inscribed “No. 197 / Edition / Picasso / 443/500 / Madoura”. Measures 9.75″ in diameter. In very good plus condition with a few very small, nearly imperceptible scratches to the glaze. In literature: Alan Ramie 494. Sold for $13,500.

Pablo Picasso “Modele nu et Sculptures” etching, signed by Picasso in pencil on the lower margin. Created in May 1933 in Paris, etching is plate 72 of the desirable Vollard Suite, a set of neoclassical etchings commissioned by dealer Ambroise Vollard. From an edition of 250, on Montval laid paper with the Galatea watermark just underneath Picasso’s signature. Paper measures 15.25″ x 19.75″, framed to 24.25″ x 28″. In very good to near fine condition with two imperceptible spots of foxing at edge of image. Catalog raisonne reference: Bloch 185 and Baer 344. Sold for $11,550.

Pablo Picasso terre de faience (earthenware) plate, ”La Pique” created at the famed Madoura pottery studio in the south of France, where Picasso collaborated the last 25 years of his life. Painted and glazed plate was created in 1950, one of the earlier pieces from Madoura, created in a small edition of 150, with painting by the master that is unmistakably Picasso. Plate is numbered 144/150 on underside, and with both the Empreinte Originale de Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 15.25” in diameter. In very good condition with a few small areas of surface soiling. Also some crazing in the glaze and three stilt marks on underside, both inherent to production. Number 103 in Alan Ramie’s ”Picasso, Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works, 1947-1971”. Sold for $8,400.

Painted and partially glazed pitcher was created in 1953 in a small edition of 125, numbered 73/125. Also with workshop numbering. Incised ”Edition Picasso” and ”Madoura”, also with both the Edition Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 10.5” tall. In very good condition with very small areas of paint loss around spout and some wear to underside. Number 188 in Alan Ramie’s ”Picasso, Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works, 1947-1971”. Sold for $7,350.

Painted vase was one of the earlier Madoura pieces from 1952, numbered 259/300 incised with ”Edition Picasso” and ”Madoura”, and with Edition Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 8.875” tall. In very good condition, with some light surface soiling and a few small chips to underside. Hairline firing crack at rear join of handle is inherent to production.
