Unmistakably Pablo Picasso terre de faience (earthenware) plaque ”Le Dejeuner Sur L’herbe” (”Lunch on the Grass”) created at the famed Madoura pottery studio in the south of France, where Picasso collaborated the last 25 years of his life. Painted 24” x 20” plaque is Picasso’s own artist proof, apart from the very limited edition of 50 made by Picasso in his quintessential style in 1964. Inscribed ”Edition Editeur”, with both the Empreinte Originale de Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 24” x 20”. In very good plus condition with a few minute chips along verso of right edge. Number 517 in Alan Ramie’s ”Picasso, Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works, 1947-1971”. Sold for $55,125.

Pablo Picasso “Visage no. 197” — Playful Ceramic Created at the Madoura Pottery Studios

Pablo Picasso Terre de faience (earthenware) plate, “Visage no. 197” created at the famed Madoura pottery studio in the south of France, where Picasso collaborated the last 25 years of his life and created often playful pieces. Plate glazed in colors was created in 1963, numbered 443/500 and inscribed “No. 197 / Edition / Picasso / 443/500 / Madoura”. Measures 9.75″ in diameter. In very good plus condition with a few very small, nearly imperceptible scratches to the glaze. In literature: Alan Ramie 494. Sold for $13,500.

Pablo Picasso Signed “Modele nu et Sculptures” Etching — From the Desirable Vollard Suite of Etchings

Pablo Picasso “Modele nu et Sculptures” etching, signed by Picasso in pencil on the lower margin. Created in May 1933 in Paris, etching is plate 72 of the desirable Vollard Suite, a set of neoclassical etchings commissioned by dealer Ambroise Vollard. From an edition of 250, on Montval laid paper with the Galatea watermark just underneath Picasso’s signature. Paper measures 15.25″ x 19.75″, framed to 24.25″ x 28″. In very good to near fine condition with two imperceptible spots of foxing at edge of image. Catalog raisonne reference: Bloch 185 and Baer 344. Sold for $11,550.

Pablo Picasso “Sujet Colombe” — Dove Vase Created at the Madoura Pottery Studios

Pablo Picasso Terre de faience (earthenware) vase, “Sujet Colombe” created at the famed Madoura pottery studio in the south of France, where Picasso collaborated the last 25 years of his life and created often playful pieces, such as this dove-inspired vase. Colored in deep blues and black, vase was created in 1959, numbered 46/100 and inscribed “Edition / Picasso / 46/100″, with Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 6.75” tall. Professional and invisible restoration at tail, overall very good condition. In literature: Alan Ramie 433. Sold for $8,925.

Pablo Picasso “Figure de Proue”, Number 136 — Vase Created at the Madoura Pottery Studios

Pablo Picasso terre de faience (earthenware) vase, ”Figure de Proue”, created at the famed Madoura pottery studio in the south of France, where Picasso collaborated the last 25 years of his life and created often playful pieces such as this. Painted vase was one of the earlier Madoura pieces from 1952, numbered 259/300 incised with ”Edition Picasso” and ”Madoura”, and with Edition Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 8.875” tall. In very good condition, with some light surface soiling and a few small chips to underside. Hairline firing crack at rear join of handle is inherent to production. Number 136 in Alan Ramie’s ”Picasso, Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works, 1947-1971”. Sold for $8,925.

Pablo Picasso “Hibou”, Number 253 — Ceramic Owl Pitcher Created at the Madoura Pottery Studios

Pablo Picasso terre de faience (earthenware) pitcher ”Hibou” created at the famed Madoura pottery studio in the south of France, where Picasso collaborated the last 25 years of his life and created often playful pieces, such as this owl-inspired piece. Painted and glazed pitcher was created in 1954 in an edition of 500. Inscribed ”Edition Picasso” and ”Madoura”, also with both the Edition Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 9.625” tall. In very good plus condition with four areas of adhesive staining, confined to underside. Number 253 in Alan Ramie’s ”Picasso, Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works, 1947-1971”. Sold for $8,400.

Pablo Picasso terre de faience (earthenware) pitcher ”Pichet Yan” created at the famed Madoura pottery studio in the south of France, where Picasso collaborated the last 25 years of his life. Painted pitcher in Picasso’s unmistakable style was created in 1952 in an edition of 400. Inscribed ”Edition Picasso” and with both the Edition Picasso and Madoura stamps. Measures 10.25” tall. In very good condition with a few small scuff marks and a tiny spot of surface soiling inside spout. Number 140 in Alan Ramie’s ”Picasso, Catalogue of the Edited Ceramic Works, 1947-1971”.  Sold for $7,875.
