Sell Your 1965 Topps Jim Catfish Hunter Athletics Rookies #526 PSA 9
Jim “Catfish” Hunter was a professional MLB player with the Kansas City / Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees between 1965 and 1979. He pitched a perfect game in 1968, the ninth one in MLB history and was the first pitcher in the American League to do so in a regular season game since 1922. He retired from baseball at just 33 years old due to arm issues, but still was an eight-time All Star, five-time World Series Champion two-time MBL wins leader. In 1974 Hunter was awarded the American League Pitcher of the Year by Sporting News and also won the American League Cy Young Award for his 2.49 ERA. Hunter grew up on a farm in Hertford, North Carolina and returned back there following his retirement in 1979. He was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1998 and passed away in 1999. The Catfish Hunter Award was created in his honor by the Oakland Athletics.
