Original Herbert Ponting silver gelatin photograph from the Terra Nova Antarctic expedition, which he documented for Robert Falcon Scott. Ponting, the expedition’s photographer and cinematographer, dates this photo 1910 and initials it “H.G.P.” He also hand-titles the photograph “In the Pack”, which features a ship docked in snow and ice. 7.25″ x 5.5″ photograph is matted to 14″ x 11″. Near fine. Sold for $2,100.

Absolutely breathtaking signed silver gelatin photo by Herbert Ponting, the official photographer for the Terra Nova Expedition to Antarctica led by Robert Falcon Scott, whose team would perish after reaching the South Pole in 1912. One of the few survivors who left before the final push to the the South Pole, Ponting captured this image at the Ross Island base camp, circa 1910. Photo is captioned “The ‘Terra Nova’ at Ross Island” and signed by Ponting at the lower right. 9.25″ x 7″ image is matted to a size of 14″ x 11″. Near fine. Sold for $1,500.

Ponting dates this photo 1911 and initials it “H.G.P.” He hand-titles it “Erebus”, for the volcanic mountain on Ross Island, where Terra Nova based its winter camp. The photo itself depicts five playful penguins. 7.25″ x 5.5″ photograph is matted to 14″ x 11″. Near fine. Sold for $734.
