Vast Array of Original Back Lot Photographs From Film Studio MGM — Amazing Set From Hollywood’s Heyday
Set of 78 photos showcasing the historic back lot of film studio MGM — Old West locales, nature settings and other unusual props such as a full-size steamboat. Photos are housed in two three-ring red binders, both titled “Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer / Video Tape Operations / Back Lot”. Locations and buildings of the photos are generic, and were then dressed appropriately for each film or television show. Black and white photos are mounted on each side of 39 pieces of heavy cardstock measuring 8″ x 10″. Very good condition. Sold for $1,573.
The following is some additional Hollywood memorabilia we sold:
1950’s Paramount Pictures Sign — Large Metal Sign Measures Nearly 2 Feet x 2 Feet
1950’s Paramount sign, likely hung on their Los Angeles lot. Sign is for Paramount’s short-lived television production company which lasted from the early 1950’s to 1959, ending with a controversial takeover of the DuMont network that aired its programming. Royal blue and white metal sign reads ”Paramount Television Productions Inc. / A Subsidiary of / Paramount Pictures Corporation” against the iconic Paramount logo. Single-sided sign has its original porcelain finish, and six .25” holes encircle the sign so that it can be hung. Measures 20” x 19.75”, in near fine condition. Sold for $4,061.
MGM Door Knocker — The Iconic MGM Lion
MGM door knocker in the form of the lion’s head. Brass fixture features the face and mane of the famous Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in relief as its plate, surrounded by a hinged ring with rope and stylized Florian cross decorations. The lion has been the mascot of MGM and the familiar opening credit to all its pictures, even cartoons since 1924. The logo was originally designed by Lionel S. Reiss, art director at Paramount Studios. Since then a total of 7 different lions have starred in the clip. A small plate on the top of the knocker is engraved, ”MGM Studio / Property / Culver City Cal”. Measures 8” in diameter. Weighs 3 pounds, 9 ounces. Some tarnishing, else near fine. Sold for $1,000.
