Hank Sauer was an American Major League Baseball left fielder who played for fifteen seasons between 1941 through 1959. The teams he played for include the Cincinnati Reds, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, New York Giants and San Francisco Giants. During Sauer’s baseball career he played 1399 games and had a batting average of .266. He was known for being a power hitter during his years with the Chicago Cubs and in 1952, with 37 home runs, had the most out of any player in the National League. He was also the National League’s most valuable player in 1952 and was a two-time all-star with with Chicago Cubs. Sauer finished his playing career with the Giants during their first year in San Francisco. He continued on as a Giants batting coach and scout for the next 25 years.
