Sell Your HP Lovecraft The Outsider and Others 1st Edition
Here is a first edition copy of HP Lovecraft The Outsider and Others we sold:
Rare First Edition of H.P. Lovecraft’s “The Outsider and Others”
Rare first edition of the collected works of H.P. Lovecraft, “The Outsider and Others,” as well as the first book published by Arkham House in 1939 (in Sauk City, WI). Limited to 1,200 copies, this first edition of “Outsider” remains a cornerstone of horror fantasy; of Lovecraft, Stephen King has written, he’s “the twentieth century’s greatest practitioner of the classic horror tale.” Book is in near fine condition with bright gold titling to the midnight black boards and an immaculate interior. Housed in the first edition dustjacket, which shows the original $5.00 price. Dustjacket is in very good condition with chipping along the spine and three archivally repaired tears. Overall, a very attractive copy of the book which spins eerily fantastical tales. Sold for $2,819.
We also sold the following HP Lovecraft signed letter:
H.P. Lovecraft Letter Signed on the Death of a Young Writer — “…I expected to see him develop like…August W. Derleth, Donald Wandrei…well-established figures in the world of weird writing…”.
Legendary horror and fantasy author, H.P. Lovecraft typed letter signed to the mother of poet Robert Nelson, who contributed to “Weird Tales” before his suicide at age 17. Dated 19 September 1935, Lovecraft writes a rare and moving letter after Nelson’s death, “…His promise in the field of literature seemed to me very considerable; for despite the marks of youthful construction—indefiniteness or overcolouring now and then—his work had a distinct imaginative richness and atmospheric power which was rapidly improving through criticism and self-discipline…I remember the pains I took to make clear the gulf between cheap magazine stories (the WEIRD TALES sort in general) and genuine weird literature like the books of Arthur Machen, Algernon Blackwood, and M.R. James…[signed] H. P. Lovecraft”. 8.5″ x 11″ single page letter is folded, else near fine. Sold for $1,230.
