First Edition, First Printing of “Lolita” by Vladimir Nobokov
First edition, first printing of Vladimir Nabokov’s “Lolita”. Paris: The Olympia Press, 1955. Two-volume set each measures 4.5″ x 7″. Soft green covers with “Francs : 900” to rear covers indicates first printing. After being turned down by four American publishers, Nabokov allowed The Olympia Press in Paris to print this cultural milestone, with the first printing of 5,000 copies quickly selling out. Shortly after publication, “Lolita” was banned in France for three years until 1959. Some soiling and wear to covers, with an approximate 2″ piece of paper loss on Volume II, otherwise near fine with bright interiors. Housed in a custom clamshell box. Sold for $2,188.

Huxley’s “Brave New World” 1st Edition
Aldous Huxley’s “Brave New World,” London: Chatto & Windus: 1932. First edition, first printing accompanied by first edition dustjacket. One of Huxley’s most popular works, a quintessential novel of ideas and the definitive critique of the technology based ‘rational’ society. Original blue cloth boards, spine lettered and tooled in gold, top edge dyed blue. Spine is darkened from slight sunning but remains tight; interior pages remain clean. Dustjacket shows slight restoration to flap folds and vertical edges. Overall excellent condition. Sold for $2,830.
First edition of George Orwell’s classic futuristic novel, ”Nineteen Eighty-Four”. London: Secker & Warburg, 1949. Lime green boards are housed in the original forest green dust jacket, with the 10s. net price present on the front flap. 5.25” x 7.5” book is in very good condition with some light foxing. Dust jacket is in very good condition with some professional restoration. Sold for $2,250.
Signed 1st “East of Eden” Steinbeck
Signed limited edition copy of “East of Eden” by John Steinbeck. Viking Press: 1952. One of just 1,500 first edition copies signed by the author, 750 of which were intended for private distribution. Signed, “John Steinbeck” in blue ink to limitation page. First issue volume with all points present including “bite” for “bight” on p. 281, line 38. Sans dustjacket and publisher’s slipcase. Minor wear to green cloth boards. 1.5″ separation to rear hinge though binding remains tight. Overall, very good condition. Sold for $1,800.
