Lee Harvey Oswald autograph letter signed ”Lee xxx”, used in the Warren Commission’s investigation as exhibit #312. Dated 20 December 1961, letter was sent from Minsk, Russia where Oswald had defected, and is addressed to the assassin’s mother, Mrs. Marguerite Oswald. Uncorrected for Oswald’s characteristic poor spelling, letter reads in full, ”Dear Mother Recieved today the thrid package of books and magazines in the last three weeks thanks a lot I really do apprieciate all of your help. I had better give you my new address they just changed the name of this street so the address is Ulisita Kommset Ulisita Kommunidstecheski House 4 Apt 24. We still don’t have any word about our vista [visa]. The American Embassy in Moscow wrote me a letter [ photocopy of the letter, Warren Commission Exhibit No. 241, is included] and stated they think the Russians have to let us go. I shall keep you informed. That’s about all for now, Lee XXX P.S Marina sends her love and thanks for the sewing book.” The photocopy of the 14 December 1961 U.S. Embassy in Moscow letter included reads in part, ”…It is the Embassy’s view that, since you are not considered a Soviet citizen by the authorities in this country, you are entitled to receive a Soviet exit visa upon presentation of valid foreign national passport…It further appears to me that your right to an exit visa will not be affected by your acceptance of an extension of your present Soviet documentation, which is after all, prima facie evidence that you are not regarded here as a Soviet citizen…” Five days after this letter was written, Soviet authorities indeed granted exit visas to Oswald and his wife. From the collection of Dr. John K. Lattimer who was the first nongovernmental medical specialist to review evidence in Kennedy’s assassination. He pencils ”JKL 92 68” at the lower edge of the blank verso of the blank integral leaf. Measures 5.5” x 8” on one sheet of ruled paper. Fine. Sold for $12,500.
Excellent 13.75” x 11” Photo of the 1963 Warren Commission — With Signatures From All Eight Members
Signed photo display of the 1963 Warren Commission, enacted by President Lyndon B. Johnson in the wake of JFK’s tragic assassination. Matte photo depicts each of the men in the commission posing at a table with a portrait of JFK hanging on the wall in the background. Signatures along the mat read from left to right: ”Gerald R. Ford”, ”Hale Boggs”, ”Richard B Russell”, ”Earl Warren”, ”John Sherman Cooper”, ”John McCloy”, ”Allen Dulles” and ”J. Lee Rankin”, in blue and black ink. Measures 13.75” x 11”. Mounted to board, otherwise near fine condition. Sold for $3,125.

First edition collection of the “Hearings Before the President’s Commission on the Assassination of President Kennedy”, more succinctly known as the Warren Commission Report. Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1964. Includes all 26 volumes, excluding the summary volume. Each volume measures 6.5″ x 9.5″. Mild sunning to spines, light shelf wear to covers, “Book Sale” stamped to front free endpapers, and loose joint to volumes XXV and XXVI. Overall very good condition. Sold for $2,942.

Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office, 1964. Includes all 26 volumes, excluding the summary volume, housed in the original two shipping boxes with ”Investigation of the Assassination of John F. Kennedy” printed to each box. Each volume measures 6.5” x 9.5”. Set is in near fine condition with the exception of volume XIII, which has some minor dampstaining to rear board. A few volumes have light scuffing to covers. An increasingly difficult to find set from this controversial hearing, scarce in original boxes. Sold for $2,813.

Illustrated rare books in 26 volumes provide the public record of the events surrounding Kennedy’s assassination via testimony, photographs and documents. Specific topics include witness testimony, autopsy reports, motives of Lee Harvey Oswald and the possibility of conspiracy. Volumes 1-26 are bound in navy cloth boards with gilt Presidential eagle encircled by 50 stars on the front boards. Volumes measure 6.25” x 9.5”. The index, volume 27 is not included. Volumes weigh approximately 60 pounds total. Sunning to spines, else near fine overall. An increasingly hard to find original set. Sold for $1,562.
