Josephine Earp was an actress and dancer as well as the common law spouse of Old West figure Wyatt Earp. Nate D. Sanders Auctions has sold the following Josephine Earp autograph letters:
Josephine Earp Autograph Letter Signed Shortly After Wyatt’s Death — “Oh how I miss Mr. Earp”
Josephine “Josie” Earp autograph letter signed shortly after the death of her husband Wyatt Earp. Dated 27 February 1929, Josephine writes to John H. Flood Jr., an old friend of Wyatt Earp’s from Arizona. In part, “…I told them they must be very careful not to tell to [sic] much to outsiders- as everything comes back here to Vidal. The Bridge Gang are going to be at Drendin for about three weeks…P.S. Oh how I miss Mr. Earp…” 2pp. on stationery measuring 7″ x 10.75″. In very good condition with usual folds. With original envelope. Sold for $3,000.
Josephine Earp 1925 Autograph Letter Signed — She Writes of Marlene Dietrich, Getty Discovering an Oil Well & Establishing a Will for the Sick Wyatt Earp
Autograph letter signed by Josie Earp, wife of the famed lawman and gambler Wyatt Earp. Josie writes to mining engineer John H. Flood Jr. on 10 November 1925. Lengthy letter reads in part, “…I am anxiously awaiting the Will you know. So set it up as nice as possible and you know the rest. I expect to go to L.A. as soon as we receive it…Mr. Earp is getting along very nicely. I only hope he will get well again…I hope you are well and making plenty of money…Mrs. Earp.” Three pages measure 6″ x 8″, with original envelope. Very good. Sold for $1,573.
Josephine Earp Typed Letter Signed — “…Mr. Earp has been very sick…”
Josephine “Josie” Earp typed letter signed to John Flood Jr. who would collaborate with Wyatt on his autobiography, though it was never published. Letter dated 10 July 1925 reads in part, “…I am sorry not to have received the manuscript…If you cannot send the manuscript soon do not send it up here as we expect to leave for the South the end of this month, if Mr. Earp is able to travel…Remember me kindly to Mrs. Dietrich…Josephine Earp.” Single-page measures 6.25″ x 6.75″. Near fine. Accompanied by original mailing envelope. Sold for $1,300.
