“Red number” NASA photo of one of the most iconic images from the space program and even all of history: “Blue Marble” that showed, for the first time, Earth fully illuminated from space. Printed on fiber-based paper with “A Kodak Paper” watermark on otherwise blank verso. Blue Marble was taken during the Apollo 17 mission, whose unique trajectory allowed the capture of Earth from this angle for the first time. With NASA red number at upper left, “AS17-148-22727″. Measures 10″ x 8”. Light yellowing to photo, minor streaks to emulsion and light edgewear, overall in very good plus condition. Sold for $4,000.

Photograph shows Buzz Aldrin, as captured by Neil Armstrong, placing the lunar seismometer on the moon’s surface. With ”First Man on the Moon” stamp and postal cancellations dated 20 July 1969, the day of the moon landing, and 9 September 1969, the day the stamp was issued.
